Is it nuking in Vail?
Been nuking in Aspen since 4 or so. Easily a foot on the mountain already.
Pretty outrageous in Summit this morning... took me an hour and a half to get out of my driveway. Def a good foot in most spots at Breck.
Vail was awesome today. Easily a foot in a lot of places. Found some knee to thigh deep pockets out in blue sky. Might do some BC around leadville after work tomorrow as we got even more than vail. Time to go shovel...again!
JT, I was at Vail today too, great morning. Definately deeeeeep in spots. MOre on the way tonight I hope.
Monarch was a beautiful place to be today. Knee deep everywhere, with tons of thigh deep pockets, and the East Ridge in Mirkwood was easily waist deep. Fresh tracks all day, no lines. Mmmmmm, gotta love it! They hit the 400" mark today, and that mountian is freakin burried!! All the steep, rocky chutes and filling in and are now just snowy rollovers.
Saw some gapic action. I was standing above the cliff band in Staircase planning an air, when I heard someone skiing up from behind me. He comes around a tree, I try to yell "how's it going" to him, but he just keeps flying over the chutes/cliffs, cruses right into little tree which sends him flying through the air sideways. He lands mere feet from two huge pines, immediately gets up and says "Gotta know your line!" before skiing away. He didn't say it very sarcastically, but quite matter-of-factly. Very strange. Telling us to know our line? Umm, dude, you just skied into a tree...
Anyway, the pass is going off this year. Can't wait for the next Monarch Monday!
Well that helped. Good to see snow again...and lots of it. Looks like everybody did pretty well with this system. Now sunny and warm til the late weekend.
Had planned to go to CB on Saturday but this next storm looks like a Sunday event at the moment. Should I bag a sunny warm CB on Saturday or try to ski CB on Sunday and drive back to Vail afterwards? Or just bag it all together for this weekend?
Looks like high 40s....maybe even 50 degrees for Saturday before the next front rolls thru.
So I'm going to be in WP Sunday through Saturday (2nd-8th). It will be my first time in Co and I was wondering what 70 and 40 will be like if this system rolls through. I guess the area is looking at 8-10 inches on Sunday. Will that amount of snow cause all that much trouble on Bert Pass?
I'm flying into DIA and we're renting a 4/4 for the week.
Anyway..don't mean to be a pest......just super anxious to get out there.
if it snows, it will be a clusterfuck. Not that conditions will be that bad, but people have complete meltdowns on the roads.
Amen to that, brotha. I think I'll play golf on Saturday.
You'll be fine.
Plan on two - three hours from the airport.
Its a hell of a lot prettier than South Balto.
Looks like the snow will not roll in till Sat night.
Question is how much.
3-7" is my guess
mmmmm....we definately need a little fresher upper.
Uhm ya that was a good storm... prolly around 17" in this area.
^^^Trace to an inch here. :frown:
what's the word on conditions around the state. snotel sites are all over the place. not sure where the snow fell. any reports on berthoud?
10" for Vail and Beaver Creek. Yesterday at the Beav was GOOD.
Looks like another small system to move through on Tues. night and Wed. Looks like not as much moisture as this past one, but who knows. Another good 6-12 would be GREAT.
Great weekend at WP - corn snow on saturday, called 3 at 6 am but it was 6 at 10 am and 8 at 1 pm.
All the tracks on berthoud were covered from saturday. north facing slopes held powder in the vasquez cirque on saturday, so I'd say anything north facing at the pass got 8-10" on top of a soft, consolidated base. Wind loading was high, though.
Not sure where this is comming from, but its dumping in Blue River right now. Don't worry, I'm not complaining.
yea, i'm doing everyone in CO a favor by going to the tropics. hopefully, it will dump 5 ft. then, when I get back it's on. i currently end my employment the week after i get back, so i'll have some time to ski.
with you trial cancelled that means the beach will full on.
I can get away tomorrow. NOAA just downgraded the predicted snow, but others are saying could be strong.
Come on ULLR!
we're sailing for 10 days. we are going to only 5 different islands throughout the bvis. the usual, norman/cooper, jost van dyke, guana, and virgin gorda. then going over to anegada and sombrero. those will be a new experience, so i'm pretty stoked. hoping to bring back some quality bootleg rum.
this storm seems to be less than advisory level. Hoping that they are wrong and it dumps, that would be nice.
It has been absolutely NUKING here in Breck for the last hour or so.:D
Yeah it's kinda weird NOAA downgraded the storm right before it started dumping. Maybe they see it moving out quick?
