If by "liberal education", you mean a traditional liberal arts cirriculum, which would include philosophy, logic, rhetoric, history...all of these would serve to teach one to sharpen his or her arguments as opposed to spewing generalities or making grandiose conclusions without adequate support...like a certain fat assed, drug addled deejay who never graduated from college or held a successful job until he started his right wing rantings that some of the weakminded take for insightful analysis as opposed to entertainment...
