Found out that in addition to local employers not paying entry level employees for orientation, my kid doesn’t get paid to count down his drawer either. He works the counter until 9 and then counts down off the clock.
I called state and federal DOL and while those guys were sympathetic and easy to talk to, they aren’t gonna do anything about it either. My kid is working with his friends and not hating it and making an issue of it isn’t really worth it on an individual level, so whatever I guess. Confronting his manager or the business owner is probably not going to be an ultimately positive experience for anybody.
These guys get away with so much….
When I shoveled coal in a steel mill I got 45 minutes of company time to shower. That was the only good thing about that job. And 45 minutes wasn't enough.
