These showed up, in nice shape as advertised. Still not sure what' they are. Dimensions are correct for the Protest but these are full rocker. Maybe a custom lay up? Or, an older version? IDK, either way they look fun. Planning to mount with Attack Demos. That will let me mess with the mounting point, and I've got a couple buddies that want to try them. Nah, to skinny. These measure about 130 in the center, plus they have a bit of sidecut.I heard back from Keith. Based on the straight pull length he thinks they are the newer 187 version. Full rocker would make them a custom.Not exactly what I was looking for but they should be fun to try out. Will have them mounted this week. Hopefully the snow cooperates to get them out soon after.

Those aren’t gonna work out for you at all, prolly shouldn’t even try, death or dismemberment will ensue. Send them to me for proper disposal.

If these skis kill me or otherwise render me unable to ski I hear by will them to eskido to enjoy in good health.

Anyone have an update as to whether the pre season sale is going to happen? Thought Id ask here before pestering Keith.

I emailed Keith about a month ago re some custom skis, and he mentioned something about an April sale for customs. I assume that's the pre season sale?

Big storm here and I was able to get the Protests out.Heavy-ish 8-10" with wind packed areas.The Protest was incredible. I felt comfortable on it immediately. It shapes whatever turn you want with zero issues.Incredibly stable trucking over things. I thought it had a damp feeling in the chop, really nice.Being full rocker they did get sketchy Sunday afternoon when it warmed up a bit and the cat tracks firmed up.The new ones with a bit of camber under foot would have been welcome.While the groomers were soft they were fantastic. Like in the pow they are easy to shape whatever turn you want or just point it and go over everything.Don't feel like to much ski in soft bumps, super easy to pivot and pick your line.

Still using the OG MVPs myself because Praxis skis never die but they gotta be my favorite all mountain ski that I have significant time on. They make a really wide variety of conditions fun to ski in.

But I think the new one might be even more refined based on Keith’s intentions — guessing it’s a little easier to find the carved turn initiation, possibly at the expense of a touch of driftiness? Has anyone been on both versions?

If I am looking for a Praxis ski, which flex is comparable to newer ON3P BG? is that a 4 or 5 on praxis flex scale?

Not sure if they’ve changed more recently but I’ve been on them as a daily driver for the last 3 seasons and it’s essentially the perfect no brainer ski for me to grab for 90% of conditions. Absolutely love them. Ideal balance between chargey and jibby and as close to a one ski quiver as you could get. They hold an edge well when you want them to but also break free and slarve better than basically any other ski I’ve been on. Idk what it is about them but they’re perfect. They’re also insanely fun in spring conditions

I've been MVP 108 curious for a while as the 188 Q veneer is my favorite all time ski and really is incredibly versatile for 118 underfoot. Amazing combo of stable and easy to slarve and pivot. I don't know if it's the asym with the relatively long inside edge contact point or just the construction but everything about this ski rocks for me.

Any of the Praxis kooks here ski both of these and have a direct comparison? I've been lucky enough with fresh dumps conditions wise the last few years to only bring the Q on western trips, but the MVP as a travel do it all ski seems like it could work well .

I saw the praxis custom ski page mention you can modify width, has anyone gone for a slightly skinnier protest, like in the 118-122 waist range?

Do a google search for Praxis Wootest, you'll find some TGR threads, as well as a blister review. Was a a well discussed topic back in the day. Noble expirement with mixed results.

Duffman, for what it is worth. I am with you on the Q. It is my favorite ski of all time. I talked with Keith a little while back, about the MVP vs the Q, and whether given my love for the Q, whether a skinny Q was the right direction over and MVP. Long story short, he was of the mind that I would really dig the skinny Q. Sadly with the canadian dollar as it is, and tarrifs blah blah, doing my dream build is out of reach right now. Q Heavy Hitter w Carbon, -10mm, Veneer.

I owned 188 skinny Q, heavy hitter core 4 flex (if I recall correctly) and got rid of them in favor of MVPs. I felt like the tails wanted to wash out on me on the skinny Q and I love loose feeling skis including full reverse. Never tried the full Q to compare.

Makes a lot of sense. That loose tail wash from the offset taper is part of what makes the Q pretty magical as a pow ski. Was thinking it would make them sweet in day after conditions, trees, bumps where it's soft or smaller accumulations. Keith was mentioning to me that Table digs the skinny Q as a touring ski, which also makes a lot of sense. But yeah the MVP does feel like a safer bet. I own Piste Jibs as well, and they do great everywhere I can see why the MVP would be so loved in this slot.

You aren’t wrong, the skinny q might have been the most fun sub 110uf ski in powder I’ve ever used and they definitely felt more at home in those conditions. But the Piste Jib (184) and MVP (187) are super fun in that snow as well and they feel a lot more comfortable in firmer and variable conditions to me.

WooTest hasn’t been on the Prax custom page for a while - years? Makes me wonder if Keith started pushing people to skinny Protests over trying to keep the Woo rocker molds around. This thread is hard to mine but my memory has me thinking that at least 1 person has done skinny Protests if not more. Note that Woos were 113 underfoot not 118.

Nonetheless I did end up getting a hold of some 179 Woo 2.0s that passed around here a few times and I posted my 1-day review in the WooTest thread. I think Mall Walker built them, then Lord Thomas bought for his wife, then meter-man bought for his wife … now they are mine and I’m keeping them until my knees fall apart.

I think it was HAB that bought a skinny protest.

I gotta admit Im just not even sure where to go from here, theres so many options with Praxis. Was looking for something like a 189-192cm, 115-122mm, 1850-2100g powder oriented ski I could mount w/ hybrid bindings for a japan ski that would still have a place at home in the PNW. Ive been feeling the siren call of the Protest for a while but in it's base form it doesnt meet any of those characteristics beyond being a pow ski that can do so much more. But then I discover theres the wootest (not actually sold anymore?) the GPO, the Quixote, the RX...all of which seem to be in the ballpark for what Im looking for, especially with Praxis customization being what it is, but yeah, still feeling kinda lost. Right now the HL BC120 is whats fitting that bill the best but it only goes up to 187 length now and I havent been on anything shorter than 189 in years (6-3, 215#).

Any thoughts from the Praxis horde on where I may want to direct my attention? Ive got the 189 asym BG for my hefty pow/chop ski, 194 devastator for a little soft new snow, 190 dw104 for my daily, 190 dwt for my do it all touring ski, and Ive been auditioning 189 vision 118 as the touring pow ski that could handle japan (mostly cuz it was hugely discounted at the end of last season).

I'm throwing a few skis on the Gear Swap later this afternoon, I just need to take some pics.

For Japan, I think you’d be happy with either the protest or the Rx. The Rx is a lot more versatile than the protest. If I was only to bring one ski, I would bring the Rx. If I was gonna bring two skis, I would go with the protest and the MVP. All three of them tour just fine.

I was going to say enduro core rx would be my choice. New rx looks $$$$. Do want!! Enduro is a nice weight to do it all. Still in love with my assym bg's and miss having my gpo thats still out west but new rx looks like perfection

I bought a stock enduro 184cm RX Ive taken it on every trip since I got it. If I was forced to have only one ski for CO this would definitely be a contender.

It would be a custom build, but don’t be afraid of the UL core inbounds if you get veneer.

I really really like my UL/Carbon/Veneer Kusala Collab skis in their 5 flex as a 50/50 inbounds/touring powder ski.

UL/Carbon/Veneer RX would be money in Japan IMO.

I’m bringing my kusalas and billygoat 108 tours next season to Japan, but with my hybrid lindahl attack/touring frankenbindings

Didn’t Tabke podium in Hakuba with a UL +10mm Flex 3 MVP with custom rocker, that ended up becoming the FRS?

Considering that Keith basically invented the ProTest for him, and he chose to go with a +10 MVP over a -10 Protest or a Q for that comp … it seems like a UL veneer custom FRS would be at least as high on the list as a -10 Protest for a Japan mixed resort and touring ski.

I don’t have any time on the RX but it always struck me as more of a classic “traditional big mountain charging” shape compared to the GPO or FRS. Seeing that your DD is a DW104 with -6 mount and tons of rocker, I’d start by looking at that FRS or Jedi Mind Sticks. But that’s based on “on paper” specs and not any real world experience with those specific models.

Praxis Protest
I’ve been a fan of the stock Praxis Protest as a dedicated pow ski for a long time now, but I spent a lot of last season on a pair of 187 cm Protests built with their UL touring core and in a -1 cm width (so 118 mm underfoot) as my soft-snow touring ski, and they were a winner. The Protest shape works very, very well for me when it comes to making just about any turn shape in untracked snow, from long slarves to quick slashes, and making the ski a bit narrower hasn’t changed that.

I’ve also toured a bunch on a 192 cm version of the full-width Protest (128 mm underfoot) and while the smaller version (predictably) doesn’t float quite as well, it’s still very good, while feeling a lot more versatile when conditions aren’t as super deep. The narrower width is easier on my knees when sidehilling on a firmer skin track, the lighter weight is of course welcome on the uphill, and despite the loss of weight and size, they’re still extremely good in weird breakable crust, too.

I’ve got a pair of barely used one eighty two cm jedi mind sticks bought last year for sale in gear swap. Shoot me a message if interested.

Anyone here ever tried stock 172 glass layup Yetis? Dschane?

I’ve got an option to pick some up but I’m worried they are too short for me. I’m on (13 year old) 180 Flex 2 BCs that are absolutely perfect in soft snow for my 140 lbs. The stock Yeti flex is 3, and these are the glass layup, I assume (edit) that these are MAP/C+ (extra carbon), original layup of the Yeti before it went to UL/C. 172 Yeti has 8cm less effective edge but 2cm more camber contact than 180 BC …

I feel between sizes on this model at stock flex, as the Flex 3 at 182 would be a bit more than ideal … 2.5 at that length would be a lot better for me. It all depends on the suspension and progression as well, since I’m also on 182 ON3P Woodsmans …
