Yes, no, maybe. Probably depends upon the make/model of boot (ie solid or hollow lugs etc) and your skill level. A metal insert would have to be fitted to avoid rapid erosion etc. In the grand scheme of things probably easier/cheaper/safer to change boots.

In the early days of CAST the boot mod was being offered by Sole in Chamonix but I'm not sure if they still do it. Give Steve a ring on +33 450 961 163. Steve's a good guy so if he's no longer doing it commercially I'm sure he'd give you some DIY advice and he might even have some components left.

Thank you for the tip. I'll give him a call and give it a shot. Worst case is I have to buy a new boot which I've been considering for a while. So no big loss.
If it works out I'll post pictures of the process.

I don't think Solamon can expect to tell people they will be fine with 1 riser when every AT binding out there has 2

XXX-er, Yep, I've used the slot in the existing climbing bar.

Just slimmed it down a bit so it comes in at sub 40g.

Need to change the double lock nut for a washer and nyloc nut plus I need to find some firm rubber to make a washer/grommet to go between the outside the existing climbing bar and the inside of the new bar as the trapezoidal shape means that the space between the two components changes quite a bit as the new climbing bar rotates, hence the slotted pivot as the new part needs to move vertically as it rotates etc. And the slotted pivot means that the new climbing bar sits on top of the existing one when in use so the load is taken by the existing bar not the pivot screws.

That is awesome... and yeah, TGR should really be utilized more as a product testing ground.

This is exactly what I initially though Salomon was going to add as an accessory at some point. Hasn't happened yet.

I like it. Very nice work. Honest question, how do you think that will be to flick up with a pole basket? It looks like you didnt give yourself much room to work with or could have added a flange to use with a pole basket. A little more refinement and youre there. (I also bet you can slim it more than you already did in the later post since its aluminum and pretty burly). I really like your hinge though. That is a nice thoughtful bit of engineering.

I knocked this up from an off cut of alu bar I had in my scrap bin so was limited by the size if the stock but it'd be easy to include a prutruding 'wing' on each side for easy activation with a pole basket.

I've not yet checked if the additional height/angle that it will achieve will be right but was more concerned about getting the hinge to work etc. The prototype adds about 30mm of height can easily be reduced/increased but it'd be great to receive some feedback as to what the preferred height of a higher riser bar should be?

I think a lot of us (myself included) will happily test riser height and usability. And then provide feedback. You are onto a potentially lucrative aftermarket add-on to the shift binding. If I was you, I'd use TGR to demo this and think about selling to a wider audience.

I was thinking about drilling some extra holes in my ski to use Tele risers -- but your solution has caused me to pause that train of thought.

Agreed. Even if it were (and could clear a search), the number you'd have to sell to just cover legal expenses would be huge.

One thing folks don't realize about patents is that if someone violates it, it costs you money to defend it. Good luck if you're up against a company with deep pockets.

Had a chance this afternoon to do a bit of measuring of my protptype climbing bar angles measured off a Shift that was mounted for my Dynafit Mercury 304mm bsl boot (which actually measures 306mm in the Shift jig).

Here's the ski mode which gives sufficient room for the binding crampon to be fitted. I'm sold out of crampons and I've lent mine to a customer so I can't yet measure what the shortest sole length you could have without my bar reaching the crampon, although the crampon could quite happily sit on top of the riser.

Here's the factory lowest skinning mode which is advertised as 2 degrees but with my boot it measures 5 degrees:

As a comparison I mounted up a pair of Tectons for my boots (jig also set to 306mm). The Tecton climbing heights are advertised as 2, 9 & 13 degrees but with my boot they measured out at 3, 10 & 15 degrees.

Heel lifters should go to 11. Skin 40 degrees with steeze.

Jon, once you have this dialed in to your liking, I’m in for a set. Especially if they can be moved from one pair to another easily or if you’d be willing to sell me multiple pairs.

havent had a chance to review my binding yet as I’m in the hospital but I suspect heel pre release. I haven’t had an issue yet and felt secure otherwise. First release yet. High speed groomer, threw on the brakes and the ski popped off and I slid on it for 75m. 3” x 3” bonus hole on my back side. Luckily, I bled out the right hole.
