This fucking network I just took over. Just trying to change passwords and gaining a whole new insight into how fucked up this thing is. Somehow, I've got a half dozen sub domains hanging off of AD serving no purpose whatsoever. Everything got created as a part of the forest, but AD has no functioning trusts, and DNS doesn't work between the subs. Ran into a bunch of servers that aren't a member of any domain - all the users have local accounts and have bat files on their workstations to map resources - of course using clear text un/pws. All the workstations have fucking host files on them so they can resolve the various server names. Holy fucking shit - shoot me now.
