There should be a law against that sort of thing. Cars like that (and so many others) deserve to be driven, hard, and a lot. If these dorks were so filthy rich like they pretend to be, then they'd be daily driving these exotics. I know I would. But instead, these cars are doomed to a fate of solitary confinement collecting dust somewhere. Something tells me that is not exactly what Mr. Enzo Ferrari had in mind.

While there are plenty of spud investors that can plunk down huge dollars for a car like that, it seems like very few enthusiast can, hence why the cars are not driven. :(

If you have a sports car and you don't track it, what is the point unless you have access to empty twister roads and Dan Sammas on speed dial. :biggrin:

While that may be true, a person who's REALLY filthy stinking rich would not give a crap about its "investment" value. Some of the richest folks I've ever met dailied their Porsches/Ferraries/Lambos/etc, and wouldn't even care about using a regular parking space, door dings, scratches, so on and so forth. I saw some pretty beat up Porsches when I worked at the dealer long ago. They were not only the coolest owners by far, but they loved their cars so much that they actually USED them. Many of them tracked them regularly. To me, that always said a lot about a person's wealth whether they give zero craps about adding miles to their baby or garage it its whole life. One of my favorites was a 911 Turbo that had over 200,000 HARD miles on it and ran like an absolute champion. Very reliable car apparently. Mechanic told me that the owner tracked it every weekend, drove the stink out of it, but at least maintained it well (only ever needed oil changes, brake pads, etc.), and apparently the daily hard driving is what that car LIKED. Hell, they were designed for racing in mind. Put 10 miles a year on one and be afraid to redline it or anything, and that's probably not great for that vehicle's health.

Again, if a person's truly loaded, they'd actually use the car. Just pisses me off when people treat them as mere "investments." So tragic.

Part of me kind of agrees with you, another part of me thinks that if you can plunk down 1.6 mill for a car you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want with it. I asked my buddy at the store if Ferrari would blackball somebody who would buy that car and just let it sit there to accumulate money instead of keeping it. He replied back to me, "The guy keeps most of the Ferraris he buys from us, he's just holding onto this one for the investment". Ferrari seems to be ok with it, they still let him buy cars. He just picked this one up from the same dealer:

Unnamed buyers plunked down $21.8 million and $13.8 million for the cars -- a Jaguar D-Type race car and the first Shelby Cobra ever made. The cars were sold at an RM Sotheby's auction event in Monterey, California. Both prices include auction fees.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how wealthy you are, some cars can't be driven. 20M Jag comes to mind.

By the same respect, there are plenty of fun cars out there, that do not gain 300-400% in value.

Ferrari will blackball flippers though. Happened to my buddy that made 350k off his Aperta.

I've wanted one since they were new. I almost bought one not too long ago but went for modern day reliability and got the BRZ instead. Sometimes I'm glad I did but then I see a nice one like that and wonder...

Well, for all you Denver Dorks who decided to pass on West Fest, boy did you miss out. Beautiful drive up there, and if you're into Porsche/Audi/VW, this was a great place to kill a couple of hours...
