Agreed, comically bad start. FP2 delayed to check manhole covers, then runs from 2:30-4am without fans because the unionized security couldn't work longer. On-board lap with Sainz actually made the track look interesting, but I'm unsure on where any passes will take place during racing.

I was really close to pulling the trigger on a last minute trip. Glad I didn’t given the shit show that seems to be unfolding. I’d be pretty choked if I got screwed out of FP1 and FP2.
Having said that, the quali was pretty entertaining. Hoping for some minor carnage and an interesting race.
I’m wondering if F1 is an event like UFC, where (in my opinion) it’s better to watch at home. I’ve been to a couple fights and I ended up staring at the jumbotron and missing the commentary that I would normally get. Contrasted with an NHL game where I’m stoked to be there and I don’t wish I was at home watching on TV.
I’m not sure anyone really goes to watch the race, it’s more about the circus that surrounds the race. I went to an F1 race back when one used to be held in Detroit. You really couldn’t see much of the track and the cars would only come once in a while. It wasn’t the non stop drone of a Nascar race.
I remember Senna led from start to finish.
Yeah fair enough. I’d be into the spectacle of it all. I think I’d spring for a more expensive package so I could do more than just sit in the grandstands.
I’ll go to at least one race in my life at some point. It’s just a question of which one. Montreal looked cool when they let you bring your own booze in. One of the classic euro venues would be sweet too.
The 24 hours of Nurburgring looks like it would be a hoot with all the camping and parties that go on around the track.
Mrs Shoe likes the races too but she’s not interested in 24 hours of camping and boozing. I might have to do that one solo and take Mrs. Shoe to a fancier venue.
I'm finding the LV circuit to be very distracting watching. All the neon and bright lights make the cars from a wide view to blend in, they don't stand out well
I hope that next year they race in daylight hours
I read they set the hours for the euro audience, which is larger than in the US.

That was a really fun race. Exceeded expectations for sure.
Agree, good packs of actual racing throughout the field. To bad for the cool temps, warmer tires might(?) make it more racy. But them again, the cool temps and slick track kept them on their toes.
It doesn't look like a fun race to attend, but much for viewing areas (to my eye), but good track for TV.

aside from the FP1 fuckery, the race I thought was decent. Show aside and whatever the fuck that car ride to the podium was, I think the vegas track delivered in the end - should be interesting to see future years there.

Leclerc is probably the fastest one lap driver on the grid (5 poles last year and 9 the previous). So Lewis must be going knowing he'll normally qualify behind and that to beat him he's nearly always going to have to pass him on track.
Meanwhile another year at Mercedes. Hopefully he didn't screw them too badly. Or they release him from his contract (a 7 time world champion ?) and then this year's driver market goes nuclear.

There's a very good quality transfer of the full film on YouTube, but if you can find it the Grand Prix two disc DVD also has several special features (including the one above) that are pretty interesting.
