Suggestions\advice needed. I switched back from boarding and bought a pair of K2 Aftershocks. 181 long with 86 underfoot. (130/86/144) They do well for groomers and not bad in ankle deep pow. I bought these cheap, and need to upgrade significantly. I have heard NOTHING but good things about ON3P. Demo'ing does not seem to be a good option at the mountains I ski...so I come here to ask for advice. What ski would you suggest?

Want much more float for pow days. (Would also happily not jump on the k2's for groomer days either...but am only buying 1 set of skis...)
Still will likely snowboard on those real deep days, but would love for this ski to make me think otherwise...yet still perform well on groomers. (Perhaps I am asking for to much out of 1 ski)
I lean towards:
Wrenegade 108. (Probably 184's)
Billy Goats Probably 184 too
I live in Portland, so may just schedule a drop in to the factory to talk in person, but thought I'd start here first to get the wisdom of the crowd!

Are you a skilled skier? The wrens really want to be driven.
I think a Kartel 108 would be better.

Betelgeuse you've added a lot on here. Thanks! I'm booked for Sky mid Feb - hoping to nail a storm with these new skis (BGTW)
If your goal is to have the veneer add stiffness, be sure to relay that to on3p. From what i've read, they have been accounting for any added stiffness by removing carbon to maintain the stock/tour flex.Quote:

Yes that's my goal. Probably a good suggestion if they have adjusted layups previously. I don't know. Had to call in about doing the custom in 189 and to the staff's credit he went over and clarified what I would be getting in order to be on same page with expectations. It felt like he had the time and interest in getting it right for me to be happy. Also add he thought it was going to be a dope ski. My understanding is 19 oz carbon and thinking standard Steeple core. Probably wont call to micro them but perhaps on3p will speak to it here or on future order communication, sounds like the press' weeks out.Quote:

Do note, too, you can demo direct out of the factory. For Hood, I would recommend 2 skis from the following:
Everyday:
Kartel 108 or Wrenegade 108
Soft Days:
Kartel 116 or Billy Goat
All depends on your style and can vary between days. For example, I prefer a Kartel 108 and Billy Goat quiver - one more playful (everyday), one more directional (powder).
You would likely be looking 186cm in Kartels and 184cm in Wren/BG.
If you can, swing by the factory and we'd be happy to walk you through the skis in person.
Generally carbon stays the same and fiberglass changes - but it depends on the model/flex.Quote:

All this Billy Goat love has me itching to give it a go. If any of you have time on both Protests and BGs, I'd love to hear some comparisons. (Yeah, yeah, I know they're different, but both have giddily happy, loyal followers, and both ski stupidly well in a large range of conditions - Protests from 5 years of experience, BGs from listening to you).
