Mikaela is 25 years old, and will turn 26 at the end of this ski season. She has:
68 WC wins
100 Podiums
3 Overall Globes, 7 Small Globes
11 World Champs Medals
2 Olympics (2014,18) with 3 medals (2G and S)
When Lindsay Vonn was 25 she had:
33 WC wins (another 30 wins in her last 26yo to 34yo years)
64 WC podiums
3 Overall Globes, 6 Small Globes
4 World Champs Medals
First Olympics (2010) at age 25 with 2 medals (G and B)
35 years old is the sweet spot for retirement for most highly successful Alpine racers. This means that Mikaela could have 8-10 more years of success to completely decimate any previous records set.
Let's just hope she can stay healthy for us to see this history.
Vonn’s accomplishments are astounding when concidereing she did it in Speed events and overcame so many injuries. I don’t think anyone will challenge her Queen of Speed title for a long time.
However, Vonn is not Shiffrin’s ceiling; she is on a trajectory all her own. She could become the most dominant athlete of all time.

Agreed.
But nothing is assured. 12 years ago, Tiger Woods looked like a lock to overtake Jack, and now...

She is pissed. The officials delayed her 2d run by 8 mins. Hometown doing all they can to insure globe for Petra
That was a ridiculously long time to repair a single panel. Lots of Euros (mostly slovaks afaict) giving her a hard time on her Facebook feed about her being mad about it.
Motivation for the next race.
...and the next and the next. Could be a big mistake for them.
3rd today. Watching her recover from that near fall was time stopping. The slalom globe is all but tied up with Petra’s win. Congratulations to her she had a good season.
I hope Shiffrin though keeps charging because she is chasing something different at this point in her career.
' ... chasing something different ( at this point in her career. ) ' is an excellent point, Hood-
I believe next year is going to be Very important - particularly relative to her level of success...
it was sad to see LV ask her broken body to excel to overcome Injury. ...
the Public will be so focused on the Olympics...
I won't expect another season like 2019, but IF MS decides to Race for another four seasons, I certainly believe twenty-four more wins are possible ( -given her past success ) -
( and not forgetting great skiers who rarely won A World Cup race ! )
it has been a Joy to follow MS' racing ! !!
Good luck tomorrow And in the future - whatever MS chooses to do... ! !
with Great Respect. skJ
There is still 2 more SL races.
200 Points are still up for grabs.
Petra leads Shiffrin by only 85 point. (580 to 495)
100 points for 1st,
80 points for 2nd,
60 points for 3rd,
50 points for 4th,
2 wins for Shiffrin, and a 3rd and 4th for Petra is not out of the question. That puts Shiffrin 5 points ahead in the final count.
Petra has had two 4th places this season in SL. Shiffrin has had two 1st places this season in SL.
so, who ya betting on?
Petra is winning this globe

Shiffrin has a shot. A damn good shot because she is the greatest. The envelope is narrow but still open. Shiffrin is 20 I still think Petra wins it this year.

As far as my perspective as a fan, Petra et al are the current competition and the real races are against the legends right now. One more 1st in Slalom and she ties Stenmark for discipline wins and that is a really really big deal. That is historic. Everyone else will have their own perspective and that’s alright, let’s just enjoy the show as it plays out. If I am being real honest, I just want to see her pass Proell on the super-rankings so all the Austrians can see two American women at the top for a long time :)
Like ^^^ And
it made me laugh (!)
Moser-Proell was a unique talent -
( she took the 1976 season off to care for her ailing father ( and missed the Innsbruck Olympics ( Hmmm ) , and came back to triumph in the Lake Placid Olympic DH at the 'old age' of twenty-six
( ski racing was a somewhat different game then, and open payments to racers were just beginning to emerge... ) )
anyway. I am with Hood : I Am enjoying MS' racing ! World Cup slalom, Olympic Slalom ( and everything else is gravy or frosting for next year ) -
Good luck ! tj
