Rumor has it the Funi is broken with no date set for repair.
The real question, IMO is why they haven't been making snow when it's cold in order to get mountain run open.
Patrol is running routes up top. I think there's plenty of snow.
It's almost like there's no incentive when they already have your pass money.
These are fun things to bitch about this early in the season. I'm happy there's snow to play on, but it sure feels like the mountain is lacking the same stoke that we are. Staffing is an issue, too. It's like trying to get a really heavy wheel rolling when you weren't planning on it.
On those lines.... I can't help but feel slighted by SB with the $39 lift tickets this weekend. Word is they sold 2k of them Sunday. The line half way up Jerome was brutal. I would have been fine with it if they opened more terrain, but as a pass holder it was tough to be amped by their actions.
I must be getting old and grumpy. Or not. Not sure....
Lincoln tomorrow
A big article in the New Yorker about Tahoe bears.
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2...hoes-bear-boom
They can be a bit a bit fanatical. There's an argument on both sides. If these were Grizzlies I bet they'd act a bit differently.
Folks in our neighborhood are great about closing the lock bars on our dumpsters. The tourists are too dumb (?) To figure out how the bars work, so they leave their trash sitting next to the dumpsters. It gets raided without fail.
Up at the house my dog has been highly effective keeping bears away. He loves chasing them and is damn good at his "job." He's highly effective against two foot annoyances, also.
Bloody Nora!
HV has Stagecoach/NV side up and running.
About that rumor regarding the Funi being inoperable this season, I’ve heard that around lately but I’ve also had people tell me some work was being done but it’s not true and it’ll be running soon. Anyone have the skinny on that? Kind of a big deal if we only have wa she shu and the tram to get up top.
The local bear population far exceeds the natural carrying capacity of the environment. The break into houses and cars or they starve. Shooting problme bears seems more humane.
OTOH bears may be native to the area, but humans aren't even native to the continent.
My cocker and cockapoo chased a bear up the hill behind our else. Very glad it wasn't a grizzly. My neighborhood has a hound. We leave the cougars to him. (One cougar anyway.)
Best day of the season so far.

Skiing was good today and will be tomorrow, except for here. The line will likely be gone after tomorrow.

good dog
The Bear Leage may disagree about over population, but Fish and Game feels otherwise. We had a problem bear a few years back. It broke into my neighbors house and both of our campers. Fish and Game told me to shoot it. We were able to drive it away without having to do that. My dog played a big part. I also gave it a warning shot. It got the picture and hasn't been back.
Unfortunately you don't really even want to eat these trash bears. Their meat is pretty nasty, so it's a waste to shoot one.
I, for one, appreciate the gesture of the $39 day ticket.
It’s a much needed throwback to the days when Tahoe didn’t cater to the pass holder, second home owner or rich entitled tech bro, but rather to the core skier who saved up their hard earned $$$ to squeeze in a day on the slopes.
I wish more hills did this. It goes a long way to spreading a semblance of goodwill and community vibes towards long time locals who have lived and worked here pre-2020 Covid migration.
I would be interested to see stats on who bought those $39 tickets.
Locals? Folks up for the holidays who don’t have a pass anywhere.?
Randos who were lured in by the cheap ticket?
Also be interested to know the % breakdown of how many folks who were at SB were pass holders and how many bought the $39 tix…
Anyway, I thought it was cool that they did that. I have been skiing in the area long enough to remember when you could score $39 SB tix at Wild Cherries…
In regards to the bears, I had one get into my box twice last month. First time in 15 years of living in my house that that’s happened. Started using the extra lock on the box and taking trash out morning of pick-up and that seems to have solved the problem.
No disrespect, but i have a hard time believing that a serious diet would not buy a season pass somewhere

I liked the $39 deal. It was announced when the realistic hopes were for man made snow and WROD conditions.
My young ski days were skiing in California in the 80’s, and I feel like long lift lines and slow lifts were the norm. I love hot lapping powder days with no lift lines, but am ok with longer lines and cheaper tix.
With the change of the terrain park location, it seems likely SB may have longer lines for Xmas tree and Lincoln lifts. It’ll be fun watching the air show from the lift lines and the lifts.
Argh
Yeah, I mean a pass is only 2700 packs of ramen. Surely you could cut that from your diet.
Congrats on getting rich and soft

PSA
These guys are throwing down at the golf course in TC on Saturday 11/30.
I saw them do an acoustic set at Good Wolf back in October and they shred.
got the Moment handoff figured out
Maggots always seem to come through…
Before I could afford season passes, I always bought tickets at Wild Cherries on my way to the hill.
Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of cheap tickets. What I didn't appreciate was offering the cheap tickets when there wasn't enough of the mountain operating to support it. Making the trip to the hill for 3 laps of Jerome in 2 hours wasn't super cool.
Then again, I also have a rule for PT. If they aren't operating upper mountain I won't go on a weekend. I hate standing in lines. I'll go for a walk in the woods instead.
Maybe I'm a edge case. I'm definitely grumpy.
FWIW, I'm definitely over it. I think SB is kicking ass getting terrain opened. I was so stoked for opening weekend. The lines kinda killed my stoke. I needed pocket beers or something.
Re shooting problem bears--in the past Truckee PD paintballed them. I don't know if that is still the policy. They go through Chiefs like Da Bears go through QB's. Although they have a decent one now. (The Bears that is.)
