holy shit, they weren't even in view when she hit the finish line!
Track has been $$$. Fisher taking bronze in the 10,000m, CROUSER and Kovaks going Gold-Silver for the 3rd time. Bol storming her anchor leg in 47.9 for the mixed 4x4, Alfred blitzing the W100 and now Lyles rising to the occasion. So much good stuff. Mens 1500m
Final will be all time

Scottie Scheffler's back 9 to post a 62 and win gold was absolutely incredible. Rahm, Fleetwood, Schauffele, Rory and Matsuyama were all leading him and throwing darts which makes it even more incredible.
That women’s cycling finish was the best performance of the day. Just a no name grinder who wasn’t supposed to be on the podium who showed up the world’s best
men's tennis final was superb. incredibly high level of tennis. one of the best matches I've seen
I don't watch much golf and don't have the Golf Channel, but this is one time I wish that this had been shown at least the last few holes on NBC or USA. That's got to be a tough pill for Rahm to swallow. Kudos to Scottie for the birdie machine on the back nine.
Finke in the 1500 and US in the women's medley relay setting WR's on the last day and winning the gold medal count over the Aussies.
Full replay of the golf on Peacock if you can get to that.
Sport climbing started today. I thought Alex Honnold was going to be commentating, but he's not on the speed climbing or bouldering event replays on Peacock. Anyone know what's up with that?

Man the US beach volleyball women just completed one of the bigger choke jobs I've seen in awhile.
Up 14-9 in the first set but they blew the lead and lost the set, and then in the must-win second set, were tied 18-all, but lost again. Eliminated from medal contention :nonono2:
The flock of pigeons at this Mor-Spa match are *killing* me. :D
Yeah I guess it was an emotional hot take :(
I should have watched the replay of Knibb's TT crashes. Watching her tow the German back to the lead in the team Tri--and seemingly refuse help!--has me thinking she may have earned every dumb thing that's happened to her. She treated the bike like a run. At least she gave up her road race spot.
The problem with hosting the Olympics is the velodrome. Most sport arena’s / venues you already have, or can build temp, or can build and reuse / repurpose. But a velodrome… you have to build velodrome…. Then you have velodrome…

til a velodrome is an indoor cycling arena.
You guys made me look. Atlanta’s Velodrome for the 96 games was a massive steel based temporary track taken down after the games. It was an outdoor track.
Ironically there is another outdoor velodrome by the airport that has been in continual use since 1972. Weird.
Make velodromes great again
Keely Hodgkinson destroyed that 800 m final. Led from the front the whole race, Pre would have smiled.
Also, Gabby Thomas, wow.
Interesting point. We have a somewhat local velodrome due to the Pan AM Games. Don't believe there's any others anywhere near here.
Men's doubles badminton, gold medal match, China-Taiwan (Chinese Taipei). Most raucous crowd, most intense competition I've seen at the games so far. (And I did catch the mixed judo final.)
Cool to see Adam Ondra at the sport climbing (boulder) competition today as well.
Interesting. I'd imagine a velodrome is similar to a pool. You can make world-class temporary pools now--like the one in Paris (even if it was a bit shallow) and in Rio (even the building was temporary there). This has got to be the way going forward rather than building a massive amount of new infrastructure that is ridiculously outsized once the Games are over.
Temporary mountains.
artificial rapids take some doing.
Nadia Comeneci looking good.
:D
I am very pro velodrome. My very nice steel colnago road bike came into my possession (for a song) when a surgeon needed to make room in his stable for a track bike. This was in the boot heels of the 2004 games.
I wonder if athletes doing stuff in the Seine had to waive rights for legal action due to getting sick before being able to enter the river.
I wish the peacock coverage was a little better, especially with their highlights vids. I wanted to show the fam the mixed 4x400 WR heat, but couldn’t find via peacock. We still enjoyed watching the race.
The New Orleasn/Swedish pole vaulter is impressive.
HOLY SHIT!!!!!
I'm not dropping a spoiler but HOLY SHIT!!!! Wife and I were SCREAMING
Yup, that 1500 was wild and wooly! Wow!
On another front, this is interesting.
“My performance and what I’m able to do in training is so closely linked to nutrition,” he says. “As I’ve gotten older, it’s become more so with limiting inflammation, making sure I’m properly hydrated, making sure I can make it through workouts. I can’t get away with the same things at 30 that I could at 20.”

Prophecy fulfilled (not mine; his). Ive spent two decades on the TGR of track and field and many of us there saw massive medal potential for him and a strong likelihood of stealing the gold. Insane.
My Kids were napping but i wanted to scream. Centro’s 1500m gold in Rio was a huge win and some amount of luck and the stars aligning. But today! Today was proof of growth as a middle distance top-tier runner and his true potential. 1st, 3rd and 5th is finally the statement of fact that USA men are real players on the world stage.
1500m!
When did everyone decide to wear orange shoes.
Three Americans in the top five 1500m race is just amazing. It wasn't that long ago when USA distance track was written off by a lot of people.
"Purple has been one of my themes," she said after she and her relay partners broke the world record in the 4x400 metres. "Going into this, I had this vision. I found a barber, I just asked him to bring together my vision and he did perfectly."
Sportswear brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Puma have also prepared for purple, producing shoes in lurid orange and yellow hues to clash with the track.
Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei, who won gold in the 10,000 metres on Friday, was among the athletes wearing fluorescent orange spikes that popped against the purple, ensuring maximum visibility, in the stadium and on television, for the latest "supershoe" technologies.
