people like us don't contribute enough to the high margin stuff at the ski area, so when those marks dry up everything winds down (rentals, retail, food)
Yep, the people that ski April into May already paid for their pass back in the spring/summer, and are likely brown bagging lunch and bringing their own car beers. Once the day ticket hordes, lessons, and spring break folks stop skiing the resort likely operates at a loss. And Snoqualmie has a captive audience because the other ski areas are twice the drive time, and have their own well publicized issues.Quote:

I am moving down to Seattle area this summer. Lived in North Bend 20+ yrs ago and liked the relatively slower pace while still having a reasonable commute, but didn't hit the pass much as me and the wife were working a lot and the oldest was living up to the terrible two moniker. But now I try to get in 70+ days a year and the youngest will be a Junior in HS.
My work isnt a traditional M-F gig, so I like the idea of night skiing and weekdays to avoid the big crowds. So I'm just curious if I'm way off base looking at Snoqualmie and North Bend areas again, or is the answer so obvious I'm stupid for asking?
In this boat with the Rugrat currently, off kilter schedule, still manage 40+ day seasons pretty much bc of where we staked up. Not sure what your budget is but Issaquah ended up being the happy medium for us between ski access and civilization/errands access. Close enough to the pass, easy to run down to crystal still. If cost is an issue Maple Valley is getting pretty built up and you've still got easy access to 18 to get to the pass. North Bend is kind of blowing up with track housing, etc. Still kind of slow paced but a lot more bodies than you probably remember. Fall City and North boundaries of Snoqualmie have the slow vibe but we were pretty surprised property values seemed on par with IQ and the big Snoqualmie developments...Quote:

Some legit soft snow turns were had at Stevens today. Pockets of soft could be found off 7th if you avoided the moguls that are the shape and hardness of diamonds. Soft pack developing in places elsewhere around the mountain. Patrol looked to be setting up Jupiter so maybe I won't have to constantly overhear "why isn't the backside open?" in the near future. Tomorrow should be fun for those willing to brave the chaos.
Good info, thanks! Cost wont be too big of a concern, but we will definitely be renting. Zillow shows stuff in that area we can afford, I just don't know how legit they are for finding a rental.
I have a kid at UW (Go Huskies!) and we drove out to NB a few years ago and it definitely had grown, especially Snoqualmie. She wants us to move into the city so she can stay with us, but thats a hard no.
Sorry to be a giant beater here, here from Utah visiting family, is there enough snow in Phantom trees or any other tree zones in Snoqualmie for enjoyable skiing?
Anywhere from Issaquah to NB along the I90 corridor is good. I think Issaquah is just about the perfect spot, but it's probably the most expensive. While there's positives to Maple Valley, the work on Hwy 18 will keep that drive to the Pass something I would avoid. Also the traffic at rush hour for Hwy 18 is no joke. I agree that High Point/Preston could be nice, but not sure about rental situations.Quote:

Vehicles parked without a reservation and no-shows will be treated as a violation and will receive a parking infraction. Repeat violations will be subject to towing and will be restricted from making future parking reservations.
EV Chargers are first come, first serve and free for the first 4 hours of use. After 4 hours, there will be a $15/hr charge.
Their online system blows, especially for cancellations, so beware. And fuck Alterra.

Little dudes first taste of pow at west today. He’s still a bit too light to plow through the untracked but did great once it was cut up until he got tired. So nice to ski soft fresh snow and west wasn’t too bad once we got there.
Also loving having the line blades for this they make short radius slow speed turns so much more fun than my big chargers.

Baker in low tide conditions is actually quite a riot, and the legs got a much needed workout. Lotta people slamming out there today so I bet there is going to plenty of ibuprofen consumed tomorrow.
left my house in tacoma at 6:30, parked in one of the last rows of b-lot at 9:40 for no reason I can figure out
left the bathroom / donut stop in enumclaw at ~7:30… all of 410 to the blvd was 2 miles of 15mph, stop for 5-10 mins, then go 5 miles at 60mph, then repeat. No wrecks or anything until the blvd where there was a hilariously stuck tesla and winnebago #vanlife
ohwell, it was all worth it since the delay meant I didn't fall into the "green valley til they open six" trap that many of my friends who got there earlier did
got to the throne hike right as they dropped the gate
in homage to not skiing past pow to find more pow I took the first chute into a-basin, straight lined the top, made a waist deep turn, had over the head snow fly up and realized the whole thing was flushing underneath me
raced my slough to the apron and whooped my way down to put in the side stepper to get back six without the FQ line
found some friends, went to the king, skied untracked, over-the-head-with-every-turn pow (that snow where you're bouncing up and down in the pow the whole way down, god I missed it) down SE trees whooping with joy
back to six, found out south was closed, got some good turns in powder bowl, looked around for more good snow, couldn't find anything on par with the morning (probably won't all season) had a beer with friends at the elk, uneventful drive home
this morning's traffic was one of those things that was so dumb that it left me angry, then i promptly moved to acceptance somewhere between greenwater and the blvd and told myself it was an Ikon weekend so quantity was never going to be the thing anywyay, just go for quality and my god did it deliver
I concur that xtal was chalk full of gapers and assholes . The three runs I did have were quite good luckily enough. I think all of Bellevue and Ballard was there . If you are a beginner or intermediate why not wait until tomorrow ? Nice white Tesla stuck on the blvd . Did your battery run out ?
