Fair point. I noticed an immediate difference on the first run. Tails released easier, ski felt more light and pivoted easier than before. I spent 2.5 days on it just having a ball and the conditions were marginal at best. I only switched to my captis when the last days runs were tracked the hell out and the frontside was a skating rink.Quote:

There are some great deals to be had right now. I bought a couple pair of skis at the beginning of summer 2022. Timing is everything.
I just got out on my new Noctas for the first time a few days ago at Whitewater. Hunting for scraps in the trees. Snow was soft but pretty set up following a warming cycle after the most recent storm.
I have only skied one other reverse camber ski (Hoji) and personally felt like the Nocta does everything the Hoji did, but better. Better float. Similar instant pivot in tight terrain. More supportive tail when you gotta point ‘em. I never got to really open them up in soft snow so I didn’t feel any limitations of the 185cm. Mounted with kingpins and skied with Lupos.
Fwiw, mine weigh in at 2100g.

@svtjoey you asked at the start about the captis. Other than what I’ve said already, it’s a fantastic 90mm ski. It’s not super stiff, flexes really well and I personally haven’t found a speed limit. It does not excel if there’s more than 2” of fresh, but it will handle it totally fine. Expect some tip diving.
It pivots okay, but not super great. It’s at home on fresh groomers, trace and soft kick up. It’s probably the best playful all mountain ski I’ve used. Super quick edge to edge.
I hate moguls but it’s saved me there, and my grom loves bombing around the trees and I’m actually enjoying that too!

been on my 190 nocta for the last two days, yesterday at squaw, today alpine, and I absolutely could not ask for a more fun ski. Atris was in the truck and has stayed for both days. I’ve put that ski in places I’d never imagine and it never fails. If it’s gets chopped, put the beans in the front of the boot and trust it. It will do it.
thats all I got. Looks like 3 more nocta days coming out here.
I’m jealous. We just got back from ice central.
Have you ridden the 185? Why did you choose the 190?

I had a 185. Mounted with a jester then kingpin. It didn’t have enough tail for me so I decided to go up to a 190. I’m 5’11, 190. I do ski with purpose so pushing that ski isn’t an issue for me. But I didn’t notice that much in the length, just got more tail when I needed it.
@notsobright I think they flex around the same honestly. They definitely don’t like a back seat landing but pop you back up easily. Stay centered?! Lol. Not so easy sometimes. I don’t have a problem hammering chop in them, but you do have to stay more forward and dynamic. I’ve nuked quite a few fields of shit in the last two days and haven’t wished for a different ski other then my Corvus or bodacious, some of this shit is freight train snow. Nocta still handled it well and made the top turns worth every minute.

New Freebird ski to replace the Ferox is interesting. Wonder if it will lean back toward the Anima Freebird a bit?
New Dorsa Freebird skimo pack is interesting, as the Dorsa 27 is already pretty light and minimal.
We did end up skiing with a small crew for the Sunday Ski Sauvage at Highlands. SkiCo wouldn't let them do a real, on-snow demo, so it had to be a touring ski+resort skin to abide. Kinda a bummer, but fun to ski around with Tristan, Mikey and Jim Morrison. I asked Tristan what ski Bruno was skiing a month ago and he said it was a proto Navis Freebird ski. Wonder if that will come around eventually? I skied on the Corvus Freebird 183; love how it skis but a pig to skin with. Need to get some time on the Navis 179
I’m glad I held off on a new Corvus this year because that new top sheet is amazing. I hope they reduce a little of the camber in the new ferox replacement. It would be nice to have something more flat as an option in the touring line. I will say I love my Corvus Freebird and grab it the most.
I’m also supposed to go for a ski savauge with them in the Keene valley, but unless something greatly improves in snow in the north east that won’t be happening which is a bummer.
Damn those new top sheets look great. I might hold off on the Nocta until then lol. I just grabbed some Renegades from the buy/sell here so hopefully those will make do for the limited pow skiing I'm doing this year.

Any interest in a mentis 178 FLAT quiver killed for plum guides at 313mm? I skied it once, but I get too rowdy for a ski like that. Me too! I have four days touring on the new Atris. So far I love it but it could definitely be lighter for a touring ski. Apparently Julian said he would never make an Atris Freebird, but maybe he’s seeing the light, considering so many BC athletes use the Atris strictly for touring (Nicholai, Lusti, etc)Quote:

Maybe I am off base, but it doesn’t seem that hard to reduce the weight of an Atris by ~200g without significantly changing the shape or flex pattern.
