I liked this, an objective historical take on alcohol. Basically everything humans have built and done is, in part, bc of drinking.
I've had my share and stoked to have put it down. Was a long time coming for me. Life is clear, peaceful and serene.
The majority of the non drinking periods of my drinking days life (school, work, etc) was spent trying to parlay a lifestyle that allowed more drinking/partying time.Quote:

I read that book too--I think I got the rec from an atlantic article someone posted in this thread. I'm glad I read it but I wouldn't give it to someone early in recovery. 80% of the book is about why alcohol is helpful, seems too easy to use it for justifying unhealthy behavior. Stay strong MTT. That's why we call it "thirty days of a thousand nights".. It does get better, I promise.
All I know is my life is way better since getting sober. I look at the good and use it as fuel and remember the bad to keep me on the path. Not a pity party but an objective analysis. During temptation it helped me to look at this good and remember it’s only because I’m sober.
Avoid that stinking thinking and keep fighting. Everyday gats better. First year is usually the hardest. I appreciate this thread as a reminder.

Weed is awesome. Micro dosing THC can be extremely helpful for anxiety.
Alcohol though.......it get me sometimes and it's rough when it does.
If I slip and drink it's not because I smoked weed, it's because I wanted to drink and have a cigarette.
I don't agree with the religious AA folks telling people it's all or nothing. That's utter garbage.
If that works for you that's great but if you have to tell everyone they have to do the same you're kind of being a zealot.

Thanks all. It's simple, but it's not easy.
I'm doing BBI Euro next March. It'll be a boozy event I'm sure, but no problem. It would be cool if there was another sober guy there--think of it as service. :)

I've been to plenty of ski house weekends where most people were drinking... some stepping out to smoke too. I had a kid or two with me for most of them though... I recommend lodging where you have a room to disappear to when the slopes are closed and you're starting for feel uncomfortable around the drinking..

2nd year is the hardest one for quite a few... Proving to your self that you can go a whole year without a drink convinces folks that they're NOT an alcoholic and it was just a bad streak of luck and foolishness that lead them to stop for that year.Quote:

Came here to post cause I’m sick and fucking tired of all the complaining in the world and stupidly about drugs. When will these dumb motherfuckers (people on tv, our government) realize that as a heroin addict they seek out fentynal? I mean at least I know when I was an addict and made some seriously shitty choices and shot up for 8 years, I would love to cook down fent patches and shoot them. $60 would get me high for 3-4 days. Sure beat 100 a day.
when will people just be honest and say “hey if you quit doing drugs you won’t die from drugs”. There’s a way to not die from fentynal, it’s to not do it, there’s also another way, don’t do hard drugs. And guess what, if you want to be an adult and smoke weed, then be an adult and grow it or buy it from another adult that doesn’t sell hard drugs. How fucking hard is this shit. Fuck.
