holy hell those were some awesome lines all around.
can't believe reine is still getting it done.
Aymer had me yelling at my screen (again). So sick. Turdell is just too damn smooth.
Thought that Gorek was over scored. Great run, but seemed a bit more out of control through most of his run. I would've dropped him down a spot or two. Which potentially would've affected the overall standings. But whatever. Still a super fun comp to watch.
Baby Bec was a bit of a disappointment to me. 30 second venue. Thing #2 called it a junior venue with bigger airs. That entrance off the real top - which I watched in person in 2018 - is such a test of real big mt. skiing.
Watched yesterday with Thing #2 and there was some head-shaking about the judging. Still appears to be pretty much about who they want to keep around, and social media presence. Of course you have to ski to stay, but everyone there knows the FWT game is what it is.

Aymar opening up that double was the ski stoke of the year imho. YES! Reine too of course, but like someone said earlier, Aymar opened it up and went a bit bigger. Loved Turdell's flowing steep skiing and shows when you compare to some of the other competitors. Drew's lap was again different and fun to watch. All in all, I was pleasantly entertained.

You have to stand at the top to fully appreciate the Bec. It’s not so much about skiing skills but about ones mental ability to drop into abyss. The upper part is survival for us recreational skiers. Chicken turn - sliding - chicken turn is the name of the game.Quote:

It certainly is, and is also very much about social media presence. New arrivals learn that very quickly and veterans play the game to stay visible and on the tour. Once you figure that out you get to decide if you want to play or not.Quote:

I think the no Hakuba could have been COVID as much as wanting to get out of the venue. It was certainly a very different venue from the typical FWT competition arena. It will be interesting to learn more about the new format they are teasing.
I vote to keep this thread going.
Bummer Japan just never really clicked. Logistically and snowpack. Stoked to see a new venue, though!

To be fair, the Hakuba venue that was proposed to FWT was never actually used. It was much bigger and more open than what was used. The avi hazard was too much. Japan never should have been a January stop. February is still iffy.
But Europe-Japan-Europe all in March? No way.
