It looks pretty perfect. Steep sa but not too steep. Im just on the fence if i go small or medium for the usage. If it was my only bike probably a medium. Along side my meta id probably get a small. Meta 29 is amazing with sone speed but a handful in slow tight xc and the steep sa doesnt help there either. I think we've reached the limit of longer, lower, slacker ha, steeper sa. Not sure what the next sales pitch we're reaching for

Ya , bit of an oops on that one. Props for being honest and releasing it. My meta is just sublime in the park running it as a mullet. Bb is dragging just off the ground and the ha is just a smidge over 63. I can see where that donut would come alive on the steeps if its straight or high speeds. I just got one offset pushing and 165 cranks to give the pedals a touch more clearance and i dont like the dead spot on my spin w 170. Decide if i make the fork 180 , add another offset bushing or just leave it from there. Find the happy medium so i can switch from full 9er to mullet with just a rear wheel swap.Quote:

Altachic got a new knee and turned 40, so new bike is happening. Considering the following non-dentist new school 29ers:
-Meta TR 29
-Trance X 29
-Ripmo AF
Thoughts? Anything else in the $4k and under price point I should consider.
The Meta would win easily for me out of those. It looks like it wants to party. Might not be the best daily driver around these parts though, depends on what she’s into riding.

At $4k complete you are looking at one vs the other.
Two bikes in that price range I think about are the Marin Rift Zone Carbon 2 (SLX build, DPX2, 34 fork) and the Intense Primer 29 (NX build, DPX2/36 Performance).
Intense frames are very stiff and very fun to ride, although a bit too progressive for my taste. Hard to use the full travel stroke but it does catch you very nicely on flow trails and big drops.
I never tried that Marin Multitrac system but the geometry is dialed and the parts spec seem very intelligently chosen.
Ok, I just looked at that RipMo AF spec-
Didn’t realize what you are getting for $4k. That’s such a solid all around build I dunno how you can beat it.
Yeah it’s $800 more than the Commencal Essential or Trance X 2, but it’s a dialed ride-ready spec with nothing to complain about and probably nothing you’d ever desire to upgrade. Even for lightweights, in-line shocks won’t feel nearly as good as a reservoir shock on descents longer than 500’ of vert.
You can forget I ever said anything about Marin now. That frame is probably not gonna be any lighter than the Ripmo AF frame, and I’d rather have the wider fork over the slightly better derailleur. Not to mention it’s supposed to be a so-so climber compared to the RipMo AF.
Now the only question is, can you wait until March/April? because that’s how backed up Ibis and Shimano are ...
The base GG build only saves maybe one pound over the alloy bikes and they seem like a way better deal straight out of the box. The guy with the black Pistola on PB has dropped his price a few hundo and it looks more tempting.Quote:

This is obviously speculation, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if companies that are currently saying March don't actually deliver until much later than that. I don't like rushing into big purchases in general so waiting has some inherent attraction, maybe a killer used deal might pop up over the winter, and it gives me time to maybe save some more money and get her more bike. Build spec on that Evo Comp is pretty nice. Butcher/Eliminator in Grid Trail casing is a nice touch.
I wonder if they made some typos on their launch specs ... I’m struggling to understand why the Comp Carbon 29, with lighter weight suspension components, costs $400 more than the Evo Comp?
I’ve gotta believe that Evo Comp frame is gonna be lighter than a RipMo AF frame.
Looks like its 29lbs in s4 size. Really nice bike. My 21 meta 29 is amazing at speed and rolls up a steep logging road pretty damn well for a 37lb bike. Its amazing at speed and has huge standover clearance. Rear formula hub is probably going to explode and i wish it had all those adjustments that stumpy has at the headset/dropout/and aftermarket mullet link and i prefer horst link rather than faux bar. Commie has the suspension dialed in but i think the horst link is more consistent overall. Sometimes i wish my 78.5 seat angle was slacker and sometimes i wish my 63.7 degree seat angle was steeper. Its great on dh trails or in the park and its an alright one bike quiver. I think that stumpy will straddle the one bike quiver segment very well
