I was never gone for more than 10 days mid season and never saw it running or with pomas attached If you can't run a lift for at least two months a season, it is a waste of money and poorly placed. Ive said it before, those toes would be better utilized pulling people from the day lodge to the base of 1/11. They placed those lifts in a wind tunnel. Stoopid.Quote:

Ill second the surf statement, am in HMB, waiting to see when the mavericks thing goes down....I think we are talking about the same lifts at Kwood...mis-remembered the type of lift on that ridge furthest south, atop what I referred to as Wagon wheel? again totally unfamiliar with the names of most of the mountain, etc, but yes, that was a Poma(not J bar), and is almost completely unnecessary, though I prefer getting a lift in that direction if its available... while the tbar is directly above the top station of #2? accesses some fun drops right there, whether headed left after the tbar or right...
I hadn't really had the terrain knowledge to really have an opinion of where various lifts SHOULD be there, I rode those two when open and operatin' last year...anyone with any more info on chair 6? are we at a fifty fifty that it will be running on opening day? better odds?
At least there's snow in the forecast.

Any AG who has a decent grasp of EIR's will have the same issues, and part of the job is watching over CEQA enforcement. That's how poorly written the traffic section of Squaw's EIR is - it's a complete no-brainer that it's flawed (which bodes well for Sierra Watch if this goes to court). In case anyone is wondering, you might ask why would the firm who wrote it not be aware of this? Well, they probably are. The screwed up part of this entire process is that the client (in this case Placer County, working closely with KSL I'm sure) can choose to edit and alter documents before submission (it's a little more complicated than that, but that's the basic gist), so it's not like EIR's come out as some perfectly third party unbiased document. Typically the client won't do this sort of thing because if it's blatant the document can be challenged in court and they can be forced to start all over again, which is expensive.Quote:

Mammoth is worth the drive right now (from Tahoe, not the bay) in case anyone was wondering. A little sketchy up top but pretty nice overall. Good for breaking in the legs at least.

Mammoth was great this past weekend. Its icey, so bring your race skis, but the coverage is pretty good. I was lapping the top of the gondola all day friday and sunday, and its definitely fast up there.
