one thing i learned looking for a domestic truck:
8' bed only comes with a extended cab or standard cab on a 1/2 ton; 8' bed w/ a crew cab requires a 3/4 ton...not sure why that is (marketing research?)
also learned that most truck buyers aren't actually looking for a full size bed (ie, not nearly as available)...which points to someone's statement above about getting a truck for vanity vs utility
i paid $1.21/gal this morning, which makes me feel less bad about owning a huge vehicle
I raise you this:

fuckin badass
El Camino FKYA!
My brother found a tundra with a quad cab and a long bed.... See if I can dig up a pic...
Edit... Maybe it is only a 6' or so bed... Still, pretty big truck...
We took it mountain biking in bc for a week a couple summers ago. Pretty nice rig, limited and all that.
I test drove a '13 or '14 Tundra with an 8' bed about a year ago. When I called to buy it, it had sold.
I had a 04 F150 with that stupid short bed. Loved the truck the short bed is dumb, it fits in a garage is why the length. I had to order a Tacoma with the 6' bed. I like the size of the smaller truck for many reasons, the longer bed is perfect, I can toss a bike back there under the cap, sleep back there, etc. It is a long little bastard though. Loaded up to camp with wife and two kids and the four bike hitch mount it's hella long.
Just bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 with an extended cab. 6.0 Vortec v8. 155,000 miles on the body and 30,000 miles on the engine/transmission.
Pretty stoked.
Took my buddy to have a Bill Dance tailgate moment to realize that the short bed on his F150 Crew Cab was too short for practical use.
It was hard holding in our laughter for the 3 hour drive back from the lake.
After 12 wonderful years grudgingly I sold my 2000 Tacoma and bought a 2013 Ram 2500 diesel. Driving around with a new baby in the taco for a month convinced me that another door was needed. The Dodge is great. I went back and forth with the new Tacoma, tundra, Fullsize dodge. I have driven a lot of full size domestic trucks from half tons to heavy duty 5500 for work over the last decade or so. I liked the Dodges the best. Tiny beds turned me off on Toyotas. Mileage on the Tundra is around the same as the 3/4 ton. Was really looking for a 3rd generation ram with 5.9 but since the switch to 6.7 engine people think the 5.9 are made of gold. After a few months search around the PNW i found the Dodge locally with 15,000 miles on it for less than a new Tacoma and less than a similar aged Tundra.
This truck is a boat in the parking lot for sure. it is crazy how much bigger it is than even a crew cab 3rd gen Dodge. But passing people going up hill pulling a trailer is a nice feature and 5 adults can sit in it without rubbing elbows. Added bonus the subtle vibration of the cummins knocks a baby out in minutes.

junior has one of those with cummins/6 spd/ 8 ft box of course its a fucking boat
everyone wants to get to heaven but nobody wants to die
I guess that is right. I have seen him camp and sleep in the back, and he sets up a tarp from the liftgate down to the tailgate so his toes don't get cold. But he fits large amounts of crap back there.... I really could not imagine driving something much bigger than that.
I just sold that same truck last summer. It's a 74" bed. Mine was an '06, the last year of that body style and first year of the 5 speed auto. Sweet truck. Shitty mileage though, and not as powerful as you'd think it should be. I still miss it a lot but I spend half as much in gas for my WRX now, and sleeping in my Van is much nicer. Van has a lot more power and gets much better mileage too. Of course it's only two wheel drive, for now...
Yes, all 1st Gen (2000-2006) Tundras have a 6'4" bed on extended or crew cabs. I think the regular cab could have an 8' bed and I'm positive that there was never a sub-6' bed option on any cab style.
The 2nd Gen (2007+) had more bed options, I think.
Except for a six foot in the double cab WTF.
If this hits production I'll be fucking pumped.

Hopefully it would have a diesel option. Bed looks kind of short too.
I'm a big fan of diesels. Have been for a long time. But the handicap the emissions systems became post 2007 make gas a lot harder to ignore.
That is stock ride height there buddy. no lift. Buying a lifted truck would be a very dumb decision in my opinion for a multitude of reasons. I sort of agree on the front bumper/brush guard. Previous owner spent 1400bucks,+ freight on that bad boy. Most definitely did not get his money back in the sale. The extra 6 inches swinging around up front does not improve maneuverability. I have had thoughts of selling it. the PO said he used his shop fork lift to install it.
I think it could use some bigger tires and if they came off easily I might take the side parts off the brush guards but other than that it looks good to me. The center part might come in handy for deer.
I had a brush guard on my Pathfinder in high school. It was nothing more than a damage multiplier.
Just so you know. That' s an aftermarket bumper. Can actually be functional.
Bush guards are just jewelry that bends and causes more damage. If it's a solid bumper(arb, etc) , I'd keep it. First time someone runs a red crossing in front of you, it'll more than pay it's way in grief. Shouldn't effect mileage much at all with that truck(cummins?)
Is there a list of acceptable truck modifications someone could distribute?
It is not really a brush guard it is a solid steel bumper with welded on brush guard. I don't love it but it is stout as hell. Would likely vaporize a deer if they met. Don't worry I can identify a stock suspension. I guess not lifted is not exactly accurate the front has a brotastic 1.25 inch leveling kit but the back end is all original. I think the linex on the rockers/fenders and the Tacoma make it look taller in the pic. I bought it for the price and the mileage not to win a beauty contest. But here is another glamour shot just because.

yep, it's stock. 2nd pic makes that much more clear.
bumper is nice, don't get rid of it.
A bumper like that would necessitate a firmer spring in the front. So if they did it right, it should not be stock suspension.
