SRO crowd tonight at the Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema for Call of the Mild, latest film from local crew JonBob Productions.
Next week, Thursday, November 5th, there's a screening of The Great Siberian Traverse, starring Ingrid Backstrom (word is she will be in attendance).
"Looking at potential snowfall amounts it will depend on how fast snow levels fall as to how much snow falls below 8000 feet. Above 8000 feet most of this storm should be snow and we could see 6-9 inches on the East side of the basin, 9-12 inches on the West side, with up to 15 inches West of the lake along the crest. Above 7000 feet we could see 3-6 inches on the East side of the basin, and 4-8 inches on the West side. At lake level we could see 2-3 inches on the East side of the basin, and 3-4 on the West side." - BA
Godzilla Baby Jesus is upon us!!!!!
Ssssh let's not jinx this right out of the gate
As if the thread title isn't a jinx. Fuck that. I'm done with superstition. This shits gonna be bigger than Jesus could ever be. No matter what. Godzilla El Nino is happening. It's too big to fail. The hype isn't even coming close to HOW BIG this winter is gonna be. I can't wait for Godzilla Squaw lines and bay area herds all up in this bitch!!!!
Easy tiger. Definitely a six beer job to click the "View Forum Posts" link and click to the last page.
Just make sure to go back and delete those posts before the next time you mention "those" folks from where you came from while in your second year living in NLT. You gotta be consistent, after all.
Enjoy your new split.
Of course. How can we not be friends. I do snowboard sometimes though so it is possible I will slow you down on flat sections unless you stop to lend me a pole from time to time.
I just didn't like the whole call-out thing from someone with 6,000 posts... like obviously your a TGR og local... seemed like your still trying to win over the crowd, I mean cummon, I was just making a very sarcastic post about Godzilla Baby Jesus. And then you tried to take me out for not being genuine.... when I've been a Tahoe person my whole life and I've always tried to post stoke and on this thread and others.
I don't have work tomorrow and I've been drinking some coldies. I really can't take these internetz too seriously...
LightRanger FTW - that was funny. Anyway, I hope Tahoe does get overwhelmed by folks from the bay area this winter - the "likes to ski but isn't a skier" crowd only comes if there's been a ton of snow and that was probably KungPow's point.
I agree we're well past jinxes. Maybe worrying about jinxing every storm is actually jinxing every storm? ;-)
Gotta keep my e-cred, bro.
KP, didn't mean to pick on you. Guess I misread what you were trying to say. I'm a beater when I'm not on the Internet.
And, indeed, the winter economy in the Sierra could use a bit of a shot in the arm after the last several seasons.
OMG, can you believe it? Tahoe will be getting 15 inches of snow this weekend! I'm so stoked!!!
I'm a beater when I'm not on the Internet.
Buy that man a Beer.
Lol the forecast on open snow has changed from 15", down to to 6-8" for heavenly/kirkwood.
I feel bad for sierra weathermen, there is no reliability in models whatsoever. They must get a ton of crap for calling huge storms and then having them fade, or calling for almost nothing but then getting a few inches.
GFS cant predict jack for the sierra. It was so reliable in the tetons
Not sure why anyone follows Open Snow--almost always over-optimistic until the last minute, and isn't BA working for Squaw these days. NWS is far more realistic.
B&T for the win.
Also, anyone got a line on a pair of skis around 167 +/- 5 cm, ~100 mm underfoot, with AT bindings that can accommodate 280 BSL without being too far off factory mount line???
This will be a good test then. BA freaked out today about a couple runs that had the jet tilted vertical like in the "storm of the century" last year. He thought that could mean less forcing and less snow in the basin, cutting his forecast in half. Meanwhile, NWS is upping their forecast and calling for 2-3" of liquid on the crest. We'll see who's right and who jinxed us on Monday...
I like this new west coast use of B&T, but shouldn't douchey SF tech bros who moved there last year be using it to refer to people in the East Bay and Marin? Remember guys, they're changing the world one app at a time!
Dude, your friends from the city must talk shit behind your back if you haven't heard that one used in SF before. I'm loving Dook's use of it to describe people crossing the Carquinez, Benicia, Yolo/Sacramento,, Brannen Island, and San Joaquin River bridges to get to the general Tahoe area. I'll like it even more when we get our Carson Spur snowshed tunnel ...
(Edit: there is a wink implied up there about your friends btw)
Don't worry, I'm not sensitive. Most of my SF friends have already left by now so I spend surprisingly little time there outside of the occasional work meeting. I do like the Tahoe use as well so I will embrace my inner B&T-ness even if I don't have to cross any major bridges coming from the North bay.
If I move to Truckee next year as planned I'll make sure to drop all kinds of long-time local attitude to boot. And I'm not even from Vermont!

Guess I shouldn't whine about the weight of my airbag pack... Congrats to Emily and the rest.

On the tubing note, does anybody know who bought that Cisco property? I recall REI was going to actually buy it (which seemed odd to me at the time). Don't think that happened though.
Please let it get cold..
This satellite is fun to look at. Any weather masters want to comment? http://www.intellicast.com/Storm/Hur...Satellite.aspx

Thanks for that link. Good radar and I like the various "layer" overlays as well.
Forget the sat, this is what you want to watch:

Not much wind. Raining hard all night in BA but no energy to push it through.
Just turned to snow at my south lake pad
Couple inches of heavy wet snow at 5800' on the Reno side of Mt Rose, and coming down steadily. Perfect base building snow. Hope there's lots more accumulating up at the resort - it's supposed to continue all day. Rose claims to be opening on Weds...
Hurray for heavy wet base cement. Let the temperatures dive and the ground freezith over.
