^^^^^Yep and close to $30k for a nice one as V Dub is feeling the pressure to sell cars. If I didn't love the horse power of the R, that would be my next car.

I traded the R for a Jetta 1.4 last month. The R was pretty reliable, then the AC, starter, and throttle body all went in a month. I miss it, but the Jetta is nice for a $15k car. CarPlay head unit and way better acceleration and mileage than the old 2.0 motor I had years ago in the GTI. If I set the cruise for 60, I can get over 40MPG on pump gas.
Now the Odyssey is dying, so that will need to get replaced soon, preferably before ski season.
The base Alltrak with a 6spd stick will be about $25.5k with leather, CarPlay, etc. That's really tempting. The current XC70 is a really nice family wagon ride, but mileage is pretty low with the T5 or T6. The V90 CC will be super nice I imagine, but that will *not* be a cheap ride. Same goes for the XC90, although there are lease deals for $399/mo out there now.
I'm thinking either Alltrak S or used 4Runner. 4Runner is like #3 in the list of cars that are still on the road after 200k. And I really would like a car that I can take on the beach, or just beastmode through the snow when the town plows us in, and not rip stuff off the bottom.
My Outback was great for just not really giving a shit, but wasn't the best place to spend a few hours. The Volvo sure was.

Alltrack/Sportwagen is 30.4 cubic feet behind the rear seat. New Outback is 35.5 and the old Outbacks like my 02 were 31.5 or so iirc. I think our 03 4R must be upper thirties or so...huge. I think the Forester is more similar in size to the V dub and supposedly also available in a six speed for 2017 although searching numerous dealerships inventory has turned up zero 2017 Forester 6 speed manuals. Manual Alltrack hitting showrooms after the holidays sometime. Fuck VW though for being the one piece of shit company left on planet earth making the car I really want.

My 2004 Jetta wagon 1.8T is hanging in there. Replaced the AC recently and now the main cooling fan motor just took a shit this year but 175K miles so its been around.

I spent a little time yesterday in an 2017 outback belonging to a friend. As an adult sized passenger in the back, it felt roomie. Subi gave it to them with 5yr 0% financing.

That car was a total p.o.s. Every time it broke (which was often) it was another grand down the mini rathole. It got torpedo'd while parked by a drunk driver. My biggest fear was it wasn't going to total.
I don't know guys, this is still the nicest wagon I've gone around in. Way nicer than the 328i wagon next to it. Great for hauling kids, great highway cruiser, car is fucking niiice...

Glad you like it, but my dad had a 535 xi wagon, paid something like $50k for it, traded it in for like $15k 3 years later. People hate those things. There's something like 117 computers in it. One of them shut down on my dad on a road trip, so they were unable to use the fucking seatbelt. A computer shut down the seatbelt. It was in the shop for shit like that all the time.
In the stack of receipts for it, there are some electrical issues that the car has had prior to getting to us. But it's been solid since we have had it. I like the motor, the seats, it's just a nice place to be. It did have the typical wagon hatch wiring issue which was a bit of a pain to fix, but took care of that in my garage for $0.
