Got all hammered at the Fly Fishing Film Tour event last night. Then went and fished the river about 11 o'clock all drunk. Chucking streamers and hoping for big browns but got this guy instead on the first 5-6 casts.

Got out after some Redfish yesterday with my old man. We were working a school nicely until a couple other boats noticed what we were up to and charged in running their motors and getting right on top of them. They chased the school off the flats and we never found them again.:nonono2::nonono2::nonono2:

The shrimp are a little pricey but you could probably do just as well with DOAs.

Live targets look better than DOA, never had any luck with DOA.
Live or dead shrimp under a popping cork use to work in the sound but nothing so far this year around the docks and piers. May head north to the upper bays and try the grass flats, there are a few reports of guys killing it up there.

Yeah, should be big fish in schools of 100s on the flats through Oct if it's like Tampa.

This is Spencer. Super nice guy who came down from Seattle to do a little fishing in UT. I didn't feel comfortable asking how but Spencer got injured while fighting for our country. I spent the morning teaching him and some of his friends how to fly fish as part of the Wounded Warriors program. Spencer had never fished before but by the end of the morning he had his reach cast down and was getting fish to rise for dry flies. We met up @ Shoreline @ 0600 and hit the bait boat for some fresh cigars and pointed it south.

Then busted our way out to the edge and attempted to set up on our first stop where we were marking pretty good cluster of mingos and hoping for a some grouper in the mix.

Forecast called for 1' to 2' ended up being 3' to 4' with a ocasional 5' to 6' white capping over the transom making it very difficult to stand up and drop lines. Soon settled into manageable drift but the bite was slow all morning and around 11:00 the seas started to calm down which allowed us to bounce around looking for the bite.

Mingo madness with one lucky scamp thrown in.

as far as a day of fishing goes, i'm not sure it gets much better with this. Went out with Project Healing Waters today (thanks for the heads up dibs).

I spent most of my morning teaching Jim, a war veteran with a degenerative disease that has left him blind, how to fish. I was pretty f'ing nervous to say the least but it all worked out. He got his cast down and landed around 10 fish. Here he is with his helper dog pulling in another healthy rainbow.

And this is Jeff. We didn't exactly keep track but Jeff must have caught around 40 fish today. He was as excited for number 40 as he was for number 1, he was the last vet off the lake and if it was up to him I think he would've stayed out there all night. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone get so pumped on catching fish, it was really fun to watch.
