Thanks for bumping this. What a great adventure. This is literally in my back yard. I have a cabin on ten acres in the Wrangell St Elias Nat Park. Ive done a few outings but nothing like this. Now I feel lame so I should probably do something this summer. Just FYI if anyone is planning a trip the weather is much dryer in June/July. Plus the days are longer.
Epic..thanks
missed this through multiple bumps- looks like an amazing adventure!
Read this morning, and read it again after work. Epic stuff.
This should probably go to the top... again
I could re-read this everyday.
You might find this entertaining http://thingstolucat.com/logan-traverse/
Luc Mehl is a hard, hard man. His jaunts make this trip look like a lark and reading his TR's have made me re-think ways to pack light.
That Logan traverse is incredible! Also, check out the Alaska Wilderness Classic race that Luc both organized and won a few weeks ago. His route overlapped with our Southern Spiral route. Luc and his partner Josh traveled ~130 bushwacky miles in 4 days.
Bump because it has been too long.
One of, if not the, best trs I've ever seen. Thumbs up.
Unreal. What a trip.
I need to go wipe now. Moulin = POOPMYPANTS.
This should be a sticky so it never leaves the front page.
Bump cause this is it.
Jim, still the best read on this board.
I love when this gets bumped.
BUMP cos I just saw some of the Gnarwhale's photos here http://www.theguardian.com/sport/gal...515177&index=0 and they reminded me of this
Delayed dinner an hour to read that. Wow.
No dry roasted coffee beans to chew on?
Have not read comments yet.
Thanks! What's the deal with chewing on coffee beans? I usually just snort a VIA packet or two.
Luc and I went on a trip together since you posted that. Here's his blog and video of it. Unfortunately, Carly Rae Jepsen was not, in fact, with us. Here are my pics.
Amazing, excellent work guys!
Gotcha. I've never forgone coffee/tea hot drinks on a trip since. They're totally worth their weight. Also, learning how simple it is to cook over open fire helps negate the weight of fuel needed to boil a gallon or two per day. Granted, there wouldnt have been much woody fuel to burn for some long streches on this trip.
I have not seen this on this thread before - but so glad I looked at it. Very fricken cool. You guys are hard.
Thanks for bumping this... I remember reading this when first posted and realized just truly how boring and uneventful my life is... Not in my wildest dreams could I ever imagine doing something like this... Hence the reason for my addiction to TGR...! By far the absolute best TR I have read...! I cant even keep track of all of the friends I sent this to...
Happy to see this bumped. One of the most amazing TRs ever. The scale of the trip is off the charts and the TR captures it. Perfect.
Awesome that something like this pops up for someone who never caught it before. Can't agree more with this being one of the most compelling TR's ever - congrats on such vision for adventure.
With all my whining about our snow season this year, the bump on this reminded me how lucky I am to be up here. Thanks for a rad TR.
At least now, if it stays spring until March we'll be able to go enjoy a lot of this kind of stuff early.
I repaid Gnarwhale for this TR by buying him a beer on Saturday!
I got the better end of the deal for sure!!!
Mother.Fuckers.
What a TRip.
Sitting in a town I'm not from, around people I don't know, thinking back on a ski season with friends and reading through this for the seemingly Biannual view of this TR. bump for the summertime
the next epic journey of a zillion steps
starts w/ a speedy recovery fueled by motivation and nurtured by the well wishes ,thoughts ,hopes and prayers of your bros and others who admire your gumption and just go do it attitude.

continued healin vibes and respect J
I think that third picture, of the pilot, is probably on of the best portrait photos I've ever seen. The character is awesome and the way you can sort of see his eyes looking towards the camera beneath his glasses gives it a look that he might've been a little fed up with the camera in his face.
That's some real men stuff!
Impressive!!
Because sometimes you just need to waste some time at work reading this again. Bump.
What the hell happened to the photos? All I get now are photobucket instructions to 'update to 3rd party hosting.' WTF? A friend is getting the same thing regardless of device/browser. Sucks.
they now charge for hosting:
