skiing in snowstorms or faceshots?
Drove past the tram today
for a couple laps in TLP.
The snowpack could best be described as matressesc.
Will try and throw up some crappy pics and more obs.
Need to get some shit done before the spancer gets home.

Skied flagstaff today and it was reasonably styrofoamy cream-like niceness. Snowbird sat across the valley laughing at me for not having a pass. Touring in the Wasatch is highly not as fun as riding the Tram. lulz
sfb (son-of-a-fucking-bitch ;)),
was gonna post some super special post for you about Altabonics and all since you even made it up LCC today, but then I remembered Rules #1 and 2 of Alta-Bonics - 1. drink a beer or hit a shot before posting; 2. read post as slow as humanly possible with the pronunciation of a 1st grader trying to learn to read and life is good once again. :D
so, was it a Sealy, Simmons or Serta Snowpack?? :fm: Either way, you best of got laid 2night with your shriveled up, old prune dick on said snowpack - bwa mutha fukka :biggrin:
p.s. are my dynafits here yet??? i'm feeling the erge to train hard while HH is out of town doing shots of deer blood and then FINALLY kick his fat, breadloaf ass on the up and on the down switch to the road ;)
glad you had a fun day out in the "other canyon" and please let me know the status of the binders :yourock:
BWWAHH:FIREdevil
I'm still waiting for you to delete all those SorryDude references in your previous posts.
You know that Dynowhomper group buy was going on for a long time
What the hell were ya doing during that time Chasing Tail????
GIT SUM????;)
Shite I wouldathunk a spancered rockstar like yourself would just use his "Pro" connections to have the eurodynopeeps comp ya a pair or 2:fm:
As far as keepin up with that twitchin vert rackin uberfit freak buddy of yours. I think lp's dukes, treckers and alpine plug boots with a Marlboro and deerblood and Yukon Yak shot every 200' of vert would be a better plan.
Aint Illta opening this weekend you'll loose a lot of gnarpoints if your standing in lift lines or crankin out high t laps with dynafits instead of those green spring binders:rolleyes2
So any how I just went up Griz gulch cause that's what my partners wanted. You do know that the goods in wolverine and Tlp drain into the BCC:tongue:. I skinned back out the highway to heaven and down to gnarlesstude where I spent all day trying to find a damn job.:cussing: The top of headwall forest was creamy still but turned into rocky pine needled mank below 10k.
I know your way to core to tour w/ chicks or damn goofy oneplankers;) but here are a few pics

If you haven't gone yet I wouldn't go until it snows again. Was out there today and it was getting pretty thin.
Shut up big balls nobody likes you.
I went for a tour with a couple other mags today. Here's pics:

Rain crust at the WP trailhead was a given, but what I didnt expect was to find that it went all the way to the summit of White Baldy at 11300'. Up high it was breakable enough to ski a'ight, though it takes agressive turning to unlock from one turn and begin the next. Okay skiing aside, there was still clear, glassy rain crust straight to the top. :cussing:
Compression and shear pits revealed delicately balanced layers just below the crust. Got the top 6" to move at 3 & 4 from the elbow on two seperate columns around 10800' NW facing. The top 2" were moving on clean shears just trying to isolate the columns. The fresh windslabs from last night were a bit delicate, especially sitting on that glassy smooth crust.
Pulled out another column with a shovel shear on the graupel layer ~8" above the ground. I was surprised how cleanly it sheared, though I couldnt get it to go with a compression test. Alta patrol mentioned they got some snow to move on the graupel layer when I was up there on Wednesday. Anyone have details?
Snowpack was much less bonded in White Pine drainage than it was at similar elevation on 10420 yesterday.
IMO, the snow's pretty f-ed unless it gets warm enough this weekend to turn it to mashed potatoes. NOAA was calling for upper 30's at 10000 today but it didnt seem like it got much above 30.
well great day in all thanks to gnarwhale and posse
just for fun ill ad some more pics for ya gnar
heres the crazy rain layer that made for some crazy skiing.

not great tried to dig snow out under it so you could see it better...
and of course gnars info is credibly backed with photo evidence of his pit digging.

Im not sure what was worse today the hike in or the five miles of snowplowing out after the run
thanks again to gnarwhale and crew
Nice work:yourock:
alta update please?
10,500 feet. N & NE aspects were alright, fairly wind scoured. At 9,500 and below on N & NE the rain episode had had its way with the snow. The rain crust was nasty and stout.
On S and SE at 10,500 ft., the first 300-400 feet off the ridge had a 1"-2" wind slab. Very brittle and sensitive. Clean shears on this slab, but wouldn't propagate very far. Below 10,000 feet, the snow was awesome on S and SE. Very creamy and fun all the way down at about 12pm.
Utah's gone flacid. Shouldn't have thrown so much money into that prop 8 thing. Shows what side God is really on.
"YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER"
I'm not sure about Ullr though so I'm trying
so tell me whats the snow up at the bird today anyone??
just talked to a bud up near solitude earlier today. said snow was horrible, dust on top of [something unintelligible] and only place it had depth was north aspect. anyone to the contrary or with any other details? would really like to do a tour tomorrow even if shitty. need turns.
I skied flagstaff today. Besides mainly skiing on rocks and there being no snow left, what I did ski was the crustiest shittiest snow I've laid my skis upon. I went to Alta for free skiing after 3 which was pretty fun actually. Seems like the best snow is what has been worked by skiers.
heard lower mountain bird was thinner and more hateful then normal. that being said, upper mountain is ripping. Hope this next storm comes in warm and wet...
high N, NE facing smooth and chalky up high still :yourock:
Skied Alta this a.m., groomers were fun - could lay some solid turns into them. But anything off-piste was just horrible. I mean, horrible. You couldn't pay me to go backcountry right now.
upper elevation north aspects are faceting to the ground. west aspects have a melt freeze crust with NW to W having several buried crusts that will support some weight before becoming active. south aspects don't seem to have much snow except the leeward ridgelines. the rime layer seems to have broken down on all aspects due to a variety of aspect specific reasons. what is left might not be a huge issue by the time we get significant snowfall. i'd like to see some wet and heavy to stick to the bare areas and clean out those areas with crusts and weak snow. after that, just let it snow some more.
I like it better when the Utah threads are fullof powpow, hope Ullr tells God to give you guys a break
Lots of shiny snow out there on Saturday. The sun/rain crust were slick, solid, and abundant. They existed everywhere except shady locations.

bunch of 4-8" wind loaded spots today at the bird.... obviously nothing big or two dangerous looking. just putting this out there for the collective to use.
