Something tells me Viva will be honored to explain it further in person at the mini. ;)
PS - SkiBrain, it's good to know another Aggie will be at the mini! There are a few of us on this board.

^^ Shutup you fucking nerd.
BUCK THE FUCKEYES!
See you guys Thursday night. Its looking more and more likely that I'm doing a condo with Turx and his SO. I'm possibly dragging along a couple of patroller friends now that we've closed Alpine.
pussy :) make sure you come visit the poor
They don't usually let people park overnight. Apparently thr FS gets pissy about it.
Also, another Aggie her Divegirl, at least for grad school. Undergrad at Pomona, so 180 degrees different from you. BTW-I have been getting nothing but boilerplate since the Baldy bowl. I am hoping this trip is going to break my streak, it has been pretty miserable.
since when did this turn into the college rivalry thread?
ok, I suddenly feel compelled to contribute.
Sage Hens suck, Tigers rule! Io Triumphe!
Well then, I'll meet you next week hutash, but in chivalrous respect I promise we'll find you more than boilerplate. Some mighty fine, 100% GMO and pesticide-free corn gonna be harvested next week.
They have been letting overnight parking happen in the Stump lot for a couple of weeks now.You are good to go,drink up:)
Just got an email from asandygal - IT'S SNOWING IN MAMMOTH!
It's true, it snowed this morning. For about 8 minutes. Then it was sunny and 65. Then it rained. Then sunny and balmy. Then it snowed again for a couple minutes.
I'm really tossing around the idea of heading down Thur-Sat so I can be back for mom on Sunday.
I'm planning on hiking everyday.
I'm sure I'll have (more than a) few beers one night.
How are the Sherwins holding up for a smaller hike in case the beer intake isn't smaller?
I'd probably be at FKNA camp. I don't know where it is. Any reason to bring a bike?
To and from places maggots will be drinking?
Thanks
Friday night -- official 1st night Mini: Robertos, upstairs, tacos and beers.
Thurs night -- I'm guessing there's an economic factor this year, with all the hiking and camping, so my idea of Nevado's for drinks and/or dinner is probably out. We'll definitely end up at the bar at Nevado's Friday and/or Saturday night. Seems lots of people will be driving up this night, so I'll be at Petra's for dinner (I can't be in Mammoth without at least one meal at Petra's), then meet everyone for drinks at The Clocktower. If you want yummy food (with an extensive, low cost, appetizer menu), meet us at Petra's, first.
Saturday night is still open. Haven't planned any kind of party this year, but only place still going is Lakanuki (and Whiskey Creek, but...).
Coming from 395 - Drive exactly 4.6 miles, not 4.7 or 4.8 but exactly 4.6 miles (1.4 miles from Mammoth when you turn onto the scenic route) off of 395 up the scenic route towards Mammoth. Turn right (turn left if you're coming from Mammoth) onto the dirt pull off, go about 20 yards and follow the dirt road up the hill to the left (most people want to bare right on the main dirt road). Go about 100 yards to the top of the hill and you will see a huge flat area w/a camp fire ring, tons of flat spots for tents, and endless parking.
I'd say Clocktower. Nevado's isn't conducive to larger groups in the bar area. Either way, Nevado's and Clocktower are close to each other. Either way, the Maggots are going to wind up where they wind up.
Sorry, Robertos would be Friday night. We'll be at petras Thursday night
And of course, everyone ends up wherever they end up. I'm just getting lots of pm's asking for schedule, so here's a loose one to start with. Anyone can change whatever.
I'd like to have at least one night at the wine bar for dinner or just wine. Not sure what it's called, but the last couple years we weren't able to go there and I'd like to check it out (along with whomever else wants to join us). Otherwise, cheap drink and eats is what we'll stick with.
Edit - just googled it...looks like Petra's is it! I'll see you on Thurs. then. Will prolly want to bring Lego there for another go at it on Saturday, if anyone is interested. You can never have enough good red wine...even if in grad school and on financial aid :D
On Wednesday, would someone kindly post of the Day-by-Day options for where we'll be meeting (ski spots, bars, restaurants, hot tubs, etc.) in one semi-organized post? I'd love to be able to paste that into my phone so I have it with me in Mammoth. I seem to recall that cell coverage was spotty down there, and while I know I can get free wi-fi at the library, that may not always be an option.
Uber and other mags who have flirted with staying in the condo with us. Could you please email me by tomorrow to confirm if you'll be staying with us? I'd like to finalize plans so if any local friends decide to come along, I can let them know if we'll have room for them. Thanks.
The lady who is renting us our condo has one across from ours that is available. If someone else wants to organize a small group, let me know and I'll pass along her contact info.
Last year the basic steeze was to meet up at the big map/sign out in front of the 'dola loading zone mid-mountain around 10.
Other'n that pretty much everybody always seemed to end up down at the bar/lodge at the bottom of Stump Alley (that's also the defacto spot to park and sport tix, too).
Best place to start the day is a chair 2/Mill parking lot. Lots of maggots milling about/sobering up in the AM.
Link to Ft FKNA map...has anybody been by recently yo see if it is free of snow?
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&h...,0.049696&z=15
Days tend to start at Chair 2 (Stump/Mill), and there's a ticket office there. It's a good place to start, because it's where the day ends (on the chaise lounges - the Stump Beach). That night's plan will be discussed then, but know that Friday night is Roberto's for cheap tacos and beer (both are yummy), per tradition. But usually, everyone does their own thing (outside of the Roberto's night and the end of day chaise lounges) and meets up for drinks later.
10AM at the Mid Mountain Map/Sign for those who wait for snow to soften -- each morning.
Thurs night Divegirl, Tracy, Viva, and I will be at Petra's. Great wine, filling apps that aren't too expensive (under $10) but that are beyond amazingly good. Clocktower after.
Friday night: Robertos, about 7ish. Upstairs. Look for mags at Nevado's bar if you're rolling into town later than 10.
Saturday night: Open. (Side Door is a huge possibility for me, DG, for an early bite)
I highly anticipate that it will be very easy for us to spot each other, if this last weekend was any indication. Crowds are slim, we have the whole mountain to ourselves, basically. Prime snow/corn is about 11 - 2ish
Great! Thanks for putting together a plan, Elle Be. Looking forward to meeting people.
We'll look for you Thursday assuming we get into town in time for dinner/cocktails. I'll just ask people at Petra's for change. Then again, Turx and Cinders are not hard to spot. He has shoulder length pink (is it pink this week, Turx?) hair and she has butt-length platinum dreads. I'm less remarkable looking. Red beard, balding blond hair.
Quick quiver transport question.
Do we want to have an unofficial Long Board Day for Laughs (LBD4L) on Friday or Sunday? Saturday is shaping up as a BC day for a bunch of folks.
Just wondering if I should bring the 210 snowboard or not. Spats, are you coming and bringing my old Dynastars? Are they still mounted? If so, maybe I'll bring some alpine boots and take a run or two on them.
Today is the day that tickets have to be ordered online in advance to get the $50 tix deal that my buddy pass thing I got in the mail says - 3 days advance purchase req'd...
LB - You know of any other deals, since no one bothered to put together group deal?
I've got two bring a friend cards if anyone wants/needs them.
There's no such thing as a group deal, at mammoth. Don't know what you mean by no one bothering to put one together. And also, the BAF deal is only for Friday. Mammoth is not making it easy for discounts this season. Last year, I was able to get some free passes because of Aegix. Not this year.
just thought of another great bumper sticker slogan:
Corporate Skiing Sucks
(nods to the classic "Corporate Rock Sucks" stickers of the "Grunge" era).
Yeah I actually tried talking with a group sales rep but he wouldn't talk to me unless we had at least 25 people ... I spoke with three people at the Mammoth office over the phone and all were fairly unsympathetic about deal offers.
Well if they're only for Friday ... I don't know what these BAF cards are but the only day I'm planning on purchasing a lift ticket is for Friday. Is this just a coupon voucher?
Splat, you could try calling the mountain as the owner of Bro, or a writer for Powder. But last year, they made us take out a separate liability insurance policy of $5M, before giving any free tix to Aegix (had to fax it in, show it, naming Mammoth Mountain).
Elle Be and all,
The bring a friend coupons are good 7 days a week right now. It says on the coupon discount applies "seven days a week April 21- end of 2007/08 season. Go to www.mammothmountain.com/baf
So...I'm purchasing 3 all-day lift tix for Friday thru Sunday. I have an extra coupon if anyone wants it...but at this point I'll meet you at the resort on Friday morning if you want to utilize it. I'm assuming we can pick up BAF tix at Chair 2?? Does anyone know for sure??
i'll be there Friday with my choir boy robe on!
But I'll be leaving the sporty cock at home.
I'm not taking out a $5 million policy (it's currently $2 million, as if that ain't enough) to save a few bucks on tickets.
I have an MVP pass. I'm just trying to help others here...
At least Squaw worked with us on the group deals.
We oughta hold this in Tahoe in the future if they're that big of dicks.
I'm prolly pretty played out with any juice in Mammoth after I told that marketing chick you were eating dinner with that Mammoth could go fuck themselves......just sayin'. ;)
Divegirl -- Good to know that they are now good all days. However, you still have to buy 3 days in advance, online or by phone (800Mammoth) And there are no refunds. You can't pick up a BAF, someone has to give one to you, you have to input all the information online (today is the deadline), pay for it today, then go to a ticket office to pick up your ticket, and show the BAF coupon. So, if you give one away, they have to receive it today (I think you need the MVP passholder's number and/or name), or tomorrow, to buy a ticket for Sat.
I'm telling you, they haven't made it easy this year. But if there's someone out there who is willing to buy (5 is the limit per coupon) a bunch of 3 day tickets today, it's the only way to get a discount.
Yes, this is correct, except for one thing...I didn't need any code from my BAF postcard to buy the tickets just now. Technically, there are two BAF coupons per postcard (you can cut it up). One of them is reserved for Legoskier and one of them is mine. So I guess what I was trying to say was, if anyone wants to buy BAF tickets online and use my postcard with me on Friday morning to pick up your tickets, you can. You just have to meet up and go to the ticket counter with me to pick up your tickets. It says each coupon is good for up to 5 friends for up to 5 consecutive days.
Another thing, when you order your tickets, it takes 10 minutes for your order to be processed. People with ADHD, beware. Be patient. Mammoth is REALLY trying to make everything difficult this year.
All you need to do is buy the tickets and present the card when you pick them up.
I'm herein town if anybody wants to buy tickets and pick the card up. I'll be working Thursday night or pm me and I'll meet you somewhere in town.
