Maggettes, what are you skiing on this season?

wild mountain... I have no experience with the skis you mentioned. Sorry.

But Altagirl, I totally agree, I thing the phat luvs are great for carving. I previously had them mounted alpine and they were great on firmer stuff for me. It was mank , crud, mixed and actually powder also that gave me probs. Like I said, I just went too damn short. And I think all the ladies concur...your bc mouting will never feel like your alpine one.

But I have to agree with LHS....LOVE the pink flowers. :smile:

AG- what are you taking to Gordy's camp this year? Not gots again?

Heh, well it'll depend on snow conditions. Hopefully we have enough snow for the gotamas, but if not, I'm planning to get a set of 177 Auras for daily use, or I'll just use the phat luvs.

I've got a great book that explains some of this stuff - Women Ski by Jeanne Thoren. She's definitely one of the leading experts in the differences between men & women. You can borrow it if you like:)

it's older - andI know she's done a lot more recent research & found better solutions with newer gear, but the fundamentals are still there.

Alrighty - Well I got this question answered today. I went to the Sport Loft to get new boots (OMFG was that expensive.. but worth it)

Got the footbeds done and he had me pick up one foot (like raise my knee to my chest) and see what it did to my balance. I had to stick my butt out to counter balance so I didn't fall forward. He went and removed some stuff that was stock under the heel (essentially giving me a heel drop or the opposite of a heel lift) and VOILA - totally neutral easy fore/aft balance. I was wondering why I still felt all off balance despite doing a shitload of balance work at the gym. And everything he did was one boot at a time so I could feel stock heel raise vs. the change. The difference was MASSIVE. I told him about the heel lifts I tried before and he laughed and asked what it did to my skiing. He did say heel lifts do work for some women, but are horribly wrong for others (obviously...)

I'm dying to get out on the hill and try my new boots. I've never felt that solid standing in ski boots. Be Thursday already...

After reading through everyone's inventory, I am still in need of some ski advice...
I am new to skiing (this is my second season), but am progressing quickly. I am 5'3" 110lbs and am currently riding 158cm Exclusive 10s. I am working hard on conquering steeps and would like to venture into the trees as well. I need fatter skis, as I found out this weekend when I went into the trees and sank up to my eyeballs without any foward progress. I thought a pair of 159
K2 Nancy's would do the trick, but my ski instructor (whose opinion I genuinely respect) is concerned I may not be able to muscle them around based on my inexperience. He thought a 159 MissDimeanor might be a better fit since it is in between my current ski and the Nancy in terms of dimensions and fits my wish for a twin tip (also learning to ski switch). I will be mounting a Look P12.
I would appreciate any advice in terms of skis/lengths/widths from any and all maggettes!

This is a great example why going to a good boot fitter is so important and worth the $$$. I wish I went to a great place but have been royally screwed...the shop is giving me a new pair of boots because they sold me a narrow high volume boot and I'm a narrow low volume, but I feel they are limited in their experience and they are only giving me store credit. I've asked for a full refund but they believe they can put me in the right boot.

And now I have been waiting for 2 weeks for these new boots they ordered :cussing:. Luckily, they've given me my old boots so I haven't missed any days but now I have a nice blue big toe and still the nail luckily.:mad:

I'm about the same dimensions as Cloudpeak.

I'm afraid it's the same quiver as last season but I suspect I'll be getting most use from my 177 Fischer Kehuas and if I'm lucky and we get lots of powder, my 170 Nordica W105's.

My everyday ski is a 170 aura, and I just bought 173 sugar daddies with freerides for touring. The auras are extremely playful and fun, even in the east when I had them in the bumps in mad river. I don't think I'll ever ski another ski that's smaller than them again.

Mrs.Huckwheat skis a 180 Explosive everyday (5'6" 145 - pre baby), and 170 first generation Dynastar BIG for BC.

She has borrowed Spatula's a few times and loves them, but they wear her out pretty quick. I am still waiting for a reasonable option for a nice reverse camber and/or rocker ski in some better woman's sizes. Any ideas there?

Or even the 185 praxis. It'll be a lot lighter than the spatula, so it might not wear her out so much.

That width-zone IS better for getting the float over the blowdown stuff wandering... Bumping up the width myself for this season as well.
