58mph, not bad for a seiner. Notice the fold down mast.

Meh- I snowboard and ski as well. The Yamaha vs. Merc argument is the aquatic version.
My Merc EFI's push that beast at 53mph. They are pretty quiet too. They do drink gas though.
Not sure if I'm a convert, but they are pretty nice for free engines. If I get a screaming deal on some 4 stroke Yammis, I'll definitely recore the transom and go for it. Boats with Yamahas sell for more.
The Ghost Ship.
Seen luxury cruises, World War II, been Thomas Edison's floating lab, and even a Madonna video. Now buried deep in the woods on a tributary to the Ohio River.

Buddy's boat, New Zealand.
Holy shit, what's up Grizz? Long time, wow.
Anyways, if you like fast(ish) working boats, the Maine Lobster Boat races are cool. They have a whole series, with different classes, some of those boats are pretty crazy.

Besides the obvious answer (Whatever boat your best friend has), what's the best type of boat for:
- spending weekends/long weekends for two adults and occasionally a small kid;
- must be able to pull tube/ski/board;
- toilet
-shower (not necessarily a bathroom...can be outside/deck type)
- given boat prices, it will probably be used (say < $30K)
Sure I could look at a boat forum...but I don't want to (and I'd probably get lost in rabbit hole).
interesting article.....

I don't know anything about boats, but I got a story to share. I was staying at a beach resort on Ko Kradan, one of the Thai islands in the Andaman sea, and some guy had his sailboat anchored in front of the resort when we arrived. He took a dinghy in that night, ate dinner at the resort restaurant, then went back to his boat after dinner. In the morning, his sailboat was gone...all I could think was "bet that guy has some stories to tell".
What you want is something like a SeaRay Sundowner 25 or whatever they’re called these days or the Four Winns equivalent if you plan on sleep aboard. Head, bow berth, shower in head or on swim platform and in the slightly larger offerings, bow seating above the cabin. Expensive new but I bet you can find a nice used example in your range. Both are solid boat builders.
Cheaper options in the Bayliner family but I’ve only seen those on the business end of a salvage line ;)
Beware. There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap boat
I'm more of a Pursuit, Grady and Edgewater fan but this new searay looks to be a an awesome sandbar boat, a decent overnighter and I bet I could pull in some sushi too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5d6357a278.jpg

Crosspost to the lost Canuck skier thread: I’ve got tons of misplaced sailors stories tied to this boat.
What type of water?
Can't go wrong with a nicely redone Mako 25 Cuddy. Nicely redone is the part you will need to be able to determine. Try ClassicMako.com, lots of nice examples over there.
You would have to rig it to pull a skier or tube, but it is pretty easy to find removable towers or pylons that will work well. No wake surfing with an outboard though.
the Mercury 15 was full of rain water this weekend, tarp blew off. rigged up a siphon hose after trying to bail her. took quite awhile, but mr science prevailed

I grew up sailing my fathers 1979 Tartan 34’ on the Chesapeake Bay. Identical to this one.
Good memories!

Best boat I’ve ever had, though I’m on the lookout for a 16’ or 17’ royalex whitewater machine to add to the stable too...
