While not a land cruiser, I did pick up a 2003 1st generation Tacoma yesterday. Was driving home from an oil change for my 2017 super duty and did not need a mini truck at all. However, it was a mint totally rust free 4x4 5 speed long bed regular cab 2003 Tacoma. 82 year old man was moving out of his house of the last 58 years and wanted it gone. Had a stroke and couldn't shift with damage to his right hand. I offered him 5 grand shook and drive him to the bank to have the notary on title. Wife was surprised I came home with it, but for a chore/hunting truck it fits the bill.
Wife's Minty Cruiser needs some new rotors and pads. Mine needs new calipers, since only 1 of 4 pistons on the front passenger caliper are actually functioning. Pads and Rotors look good although I might upgrade it all as well... stopping is good.
What's the mag approved brake set up?

$17,000 is getting up there. That is almost my setup and if someone offered me $17k, I'd really consider signing the title over. I have a better lift and few other things on mine but I also have a few minor body dents. If you use it, it's going to get dents. Mine started out pristine.
$6k for the other is okay. The rear springs in the 450 are a bit softer than the 80 and lose their height over the miles. But really, you're going to lift it for a grand anyway so who cares. Use it as a bargaining tool. No lockers on the $6k and that's going to be $3,500 to $4k for ARBs if you want lockers but the good news is if you go that route, you can regear to 4.88s while it's torn down. The other bits brand new are going to run the difference in price roughly if you pay someone to install. Almost everything it has except the castor bushings can be changed with hand tools and a grinder.
Arbs are pricey, but... You can get a lock right or an aussie auto locker and toss it in the rear for a couple hundred bucks. You get instant traction when you need it, and no air lines to fail, or electric actuators. I had one in a past 80, and with the awd, you would never know it was there until it kicked it when needed. I had no issues driving in snow, tight turns, etc... Just instant traction when needed off road ing.

Agreed but if you're comparing stock e-lockers, ARBs are the proven comparison. An aussie or lock right works well but the selectable lockers with selectable center diff lock would definitely be my choice if I didn't mind throwing money at something.Quote:

If that 6000 dollar lx450 was a landcruiser it would have already been sold. Nice color combo, interior is likely in decent shape based solely on the steering wheel's condition.
Bet a strategic 4750-5k cash offer would take it, but craigslist photos often don't reflect real life.
3k is more realistic for both lockers installed with a small compressor. That same truck would be worth 8k with lockers.

the 91 and 92 land cruisers were not available with factory lockers, so either the seller installed arbs, installed new axles for oem electric lockers, or he is counting the fact that there is a center diff lock button on the older ones as equipped with lockers. My bet is the latter.
Also, the 91 and 92 have the 4.0L 3fe motor, which has great down low torque, but is underpowered. The trucks are slow. And they get even worse gas mileage than the 4.5L 1fze. But on the upside, the engines are even more durable than the 1fze in the later 80s. That switch from the 3fe to the 1fze in 93 is why you see the model go from FJ80, to FZJ80.
I had a 91 like that for a while that I threw an auto locker in the rear, and it was great. You could manually lock the center, and the rear would lock up when needed. I can't stress it enough how transparent the auto locker in the rear is in these because they are awd all the time, I let my mother in law drive it. Only hint that there was anything back there was the ratcheting in a tight parking lot maneuver. And of course the traction off road when you needed it.

I'm a truck nerd and having now owned this for about 5k miles, I have to say that these really are nice rigs and possibly worth the crazy hype. Even when lifted and trail worthy, they are great on the road, comfortable, quiet and well mannered. First DD I've ever owned that is both truly a beast off road and actually enjoyable and pleasant the rest of the time. Plus, the reliability is awfully nice, too.
Definitely a downside. I will say, however, that I've owned Jeep's, a locked straight axle 4runner, bronco and plenty of pickups but none of them even came close to the capability of the cruiser--seriously different universe. They look all mild and homely but you have to really try in order to challenge them. And mine isn't even an 80.Quote:
