Coyote Problem

Heard coyotes the other night at the beach in Massachusetts. While there's a lot of open land around there, there's no deer (never seen a single one) or other large prey animals, and the natural flora is either tight scrubby and brushy or just sandy and exposed with a lot of beach grass. There's just not a ton of animals in there (never see roadkill like i do at home) as it's just not a very productive environment. Can't imagine what the 'yotes eating but there was a lot of them out there that night.

Berries, garbage food, mice, crab apples, grass seed and brush blooms, roots, etc, etc, etc... They are omnivorous, and are scavengers as well as hunters.

Yep, their survivors. I have a ton of crab apples in my pasture. The coyotes love to dust themselves in my horse corral and then they always shit in it after their done.
I pickup all the horse shit and so I pick theirs up too. Bones, lots of crab apples, horse shit,corn, they'll eat anything.
I have three big dogs. But I don't let the old girl out by herself anymore, cause they'd eat her too.

Saw a coyote walking home ( Monday- Friday home) in almost downtown Calgary 14th ave . Disturbed it while it was dining on a jack rabbit.

Coyotes took out our blind ewe last night. We put all the sheep up at night but can never get her in. She had been fine for two yeas out at night with just the male alpaca.

Well, at least they didn't waste much.

Get a donkey or two. Put them in with the sheep.

Canids steer clear of donkeys, and donkeys will approach and chase canids from the herd. After a bit, the coyotes and wolves won't bother with your herd.

Plus donkeys are rad, basically self sufficient, and low maintenance.

I had two coyotes roll up on my 100lb mastiff/german shepherd mix's blindside the other morning while he was taking care of his morning business.

They didn't give two shits about me screaming my head off and only backed off when I came at them with a stick.

The dog, on the other hand, proved to me that he may be full retard...he had no idea what was going on and just kind of stood there looking confused.

This all went down within san Francisco city limits.

Timely post bump. The coys are back this week after a year. Pesky fucks have been passing through the field across the street just after dark. Our dog and cats are skittish as hell.

Saw one running through my property with a jackrabbit in it's mouth this morning. We've got a resident family. New pups again this year. Can hear them yowling right now.

No coons here yet. Folks down the road have problems, but they leave cat food out for garage cats. Inviting trouble.

Next door neighbors' dogs seem to get skunked every now and then, but we've had no problem.

We get the rattlesnakes. Two so far this spring in close proximity to the house. One I used the hose on to roust it out of it's spot and move along. One I caught and relocated. I try not to kill them if I don't have to. Hoping to find a big one to kill and skin and cook. Tastes a lot better than coyote, coon, or polecat.

Offer a 1 Heady Topper bounty per 'yote and I'll be camped out in your backyard ASAP.

Usually llamas and alpacas are pretty good at defending what ever they are penned with. Maybe try the donkey next, if they had one sucessful hunt they will be back.

Also check with local hunters, some do Yotes and might be happy to help out.

I got woke up the other night at 3AM, and had coons raising a racket,with each other, down in my back yard. Wish I could drill some(houses too close), they are the big rabbies carriers in our area and there are too dang many of them.

There was a deer road-kill on the way to work last winter. Big fucker too, probably close to 200 lbs. First morning, coyotes had devoured the abdomen. Second morning, you could see through the ribs. Third morning, the rest of the carcass had been drug into the woods.

Couple of weeks ago one jumped a 6 foot privacy fence and snagged one of those little yippy dogs.

City has hired a trapper now.

Air rifle. Won't kill them but you ping enough pellets off them they'll stay away.

had my son blast one 5 times full pump with his bb gun before it finally ran off, I'd been trying to make a home in the wood pile. It was maybe ~50 ft away and it took a shot to the face to finally get him out of the tree.

I had an urban neighbor (little league coach) who had chickens that the coons were always after. He used a 22 to plink them and would double hefty bag them and put them in his trash pick up, 7-8 of them last we talked.

Offer is out there & you can probably lure me over with the promise of even a single HT, as I haven't had one since Ullrfest 2 years ago! VT allows year round coyote hunting, and my VT hunting license is current. No need to go all scorched earth unless you just want to have some fun, but I do have several pounds of tannerite in my basement if that's the direction you want to go in :) Are you looking to enlist in Gen. Many of the newer air rifles - particularly the .22, .45 and .50 cal models - will *easily* take out small game.
