I believe one of Endless's buddies who posted a couple times is now schralping elsewhere following an avy. Endless? And, others have had close calls (Mr. Powder).Quote:

Jeez... I have absolutely NO recollection of this. I did a quick search on "Viva el Caballo," but the oldest post I found was a "LMAO" in the middle of the Unsmart Things Done thread. Thanks alot Daniel... Oh well...Quote:

it's sure hard to believe that i've been around these two boards for 4 years now.
registered at powmag in Dec. 2000 and have been around ever since. started out as "xboatbum" because i was missing living in steamboat, badly. shortened it up to "xboat". i don't really post as much as i should but have been around long enough to remember most all of the classic threads. the many laughs and unbelievable TR's are what keep me around.
i have tried to provide stoke to the community by getting all these summit stickers produced. it's cool as hell to see them all over powder mag and on here
my first maggot meeting involved me flying into SLC solo with MD9 picking me up at the airport. what a great facking dude that guy is. the meat family (what the hell happened to meats of evil, anyways?) hauled my ass around and showed me some great skiing in a short time. luckily, i was able to meet quite a few mags on that trip and that is what fuels the fire to get my ass back to the mountains after my ACL surgery.
i can't wait to ski with some more maggots. summit '05/'06 ...i WILL be there!
I joined back in Neptumber of 20 ott 6. Back then we called it postage note stacking and flame wars required lighters. We started out by making new members draw dirty pictures of there dogs in Las Vegas style shows. Nobody really knew why and it was a tradition that lasted far longer than it should. Women didn't get the right to post until the notorious "Spring Of They Ain't Givin' It Up" which proved to be a shrewd negotiating tactic that had many of us doing some pretty ridiculous things to innocent doughnuts. About that time Bill Gates successfully bred a horse with robocop and the internet was born. Since then my mutant horse robot and I have made all kinds of friends using "email" (airquotes). There are a suprsingly large number of people out there that seem to be concerned about my penis. I don't how they found out about my penis, but I guess it's nice knowing that people care. The people here are really nice and it's cool that we can talk "online" and it doesn't always have to be about my penis. I guess that's why I like this place most.
Lurked on powmag since 2001, but Pound Key kept me (then a Jong Texan still living in TX) from posting. Finally realized that it didn't matter how much you knew or didnt know about skiing, it was all about the passion... and began posting sometime last season.
The two buddha wars on RSA were nuts. It was sad to watch that neat little newsgroup go from a pretty cool place to a perpetual flame war.
Does anybody remember the ski forums on rsn.com? On the Taos board, there was a group of folks who always had some brilliant posts--- a "Mt. Dumpy" stands out in my mind. Was anybody here a part of that?
I joined here Jan 30, 2004 according to my profile, but I swear it was little bit before that. I was seeing what was up at tetongravity.com when I found out I could post pics so friends miles away could see them. So I signed up. Later I found out about the wealth of information that is this forum and was hooked. Oh, and the stoke, gotta love that stoke. First real maggot meeting was on the second speed gun day at the Bird, didn't really know who or what to look for, but when I got off the tram I noticed a bunch of skiers drooling over a guy(endless) with a radar gun and knew this had to be the maggots. Since then I've met quite a few of you and haven't met a one that I didn't like, except blurred, but I haven't actually met him and I think he's just suffering from multiple personality disorder related to being on the board and might actually be an okay person in person. All in all, I've been in Utah a little over a year now, and the people I've met from this board have always been great to hang out with and would do so any day of the week. Now I'm going to go drink some beer, have a toke, and pray for Buzz's dog. Join me?
And here's one of these things :fm: just for good measure.
Yes, you guys are right. We lost a maggot a while back (RIP Travis), known on the Pmag board as "GSpot." I'm embarassed that I can't remember how long ago. My brother Justjusty would know, since he was his roommate. In fact, that's how GSpot and Justjusty both got interested in Pmag in the first place. I would sometimes stop by my brother's house in the middle of the day to borrow his computer so I could hurry and respond to something I'd read on Pmag on my PDA. Trav and Justy thought I'd gone off my rocker taking an internet BB so seriously. But, after reading countless thoroughly hilarious posts to them over a period of a few months, they both eventually signed up and posted here and there when they felt they had something to contribute.
A skiing accident was a contributing factor in GSpot's early passing. Trav was in peak physical condition (21 years old), a college student, in the National Guard, and....a hard partier.
One night, after getting very wasted at party, he got into a fight that was so serious he ended up having brain surgery. He had to have a metal plate installed on his skull at age 20, if you can imagine. Well, that probably would have turned out OK, but a few months later he and a few other Utah buddies decided to go skiing at Mammoth (winter of '02 I believe). He fell somewhere around the Noids, from what I understand (you can be sure I was thinking about that when Sheebz and Carnivore took me down that area last March during the Tahoe Summit). Anyway, the fall really messed him up, including causing another very serious concussion.
The recovery was very slow this time. He was lucky to even be alive. The doctors had made it clear to him that he had to wear a helmet at all times, even around his house. He was on crutches at the time, and was pretty good about wearing his helmet in the beginning. But, as you can probably guess from GSpot's personality, it didn't stay on long.
He fell one day while trying to negotiate the steps in his house on his crutches. This last fall was just too much. Trav went into a coma and died within a few days.
We miss ya, bud.
I lurked for a couple of months and liked the vibe so I registered in August.

Icemang and I have known to combatively try to outpun each other, and Owens/Rusty helped me move/live/work in AK. Pinner taught me how to drink Tequila and Pabst correctly. Reverend showed me what $40 will buy you in Argentina.
Because of the Maggots I have:
Quit my job
Moved to CO
Moved to Alaska
Gotten a Job in Alaska
Gone Heli-Skiing for free (by proxy)
Quit my job because it interfered with skiing
Gone to South Americo
and others
I showed up on Pmag and then here with some JONGish questions about a jacket with zip-off sleeves after somebody over on the skiingmag forum (dead) told me to come here (/embarassing story). I got a proper JONGing and a couple of flames and had no idea what was going on so tried to defend myself  fez gave me about a two sentence explanation of what was up... and I started reading (the welcome wagon, the daily posts, some of the classics) and waited about a month before my next post. it seems they're just as foolish as the first one still, but at least I've had a good time in the process. I saw maggots for the first time skiing at snowmass, and skied with altachic and xover at alta and divegirl, nater and lego at the weed this past year. It's been good and has properly cut down on the amount of time I spend working.
As I recall amid the copious name calling, you were a voice of reason. I don't remember what you wrote, but everyone was in agreement with you.Quote:

fall of '01 for me I think. I was hooking up a powmag subscription, surfed the site some and found the forums, this community of skiers yapping about all the places I wanted to ski. Got hooked by the stoke and the laughs. My first big memory is me failing miserably to stifle my laughing at work while reading about airport flaming match-head in the ear guy. My co-workers are like "what's so funny?" I showed them...they didn't get it. Kind of faded off as PMag board ground into the dirt but really liked the community's rebirth here on TGR and started lurking way more and posting occasionally.
Don't post that often and have personally met zero maggots so far. I'd like to change the first and especially the second part of that sentence this winter. Big White rocks but it ain't zactly a maggot hangout. :fm: but if anyone makes it out that way, shout it out to me and I'll happily show you the goods, I'm there on weekends if it's going off. Should get 10-12 days in up at WB too, we'll see. I'm thinking bad thoughts about the Utah Mini and I will definitely be making it to the JH Summit this year so that should be a good start. Right now I'm just trying to block California and Utah out of my brain so I don't end up hopping a plane down this weekend. Bring it on Ullr, we're waiting somewhat patiently!!
yeah, where are DIMNS and Samwich these days ? and i just ran across the pass i used in argentina. . . that belonged to noodles...that he gave to me when he had to leave to get a new passport. . . did he ever make it back?
and i dug this up. .

i registered on the 13th. . i wonder if that was a bad omen. . . .
I am a relatively young maggette (unfortunately not in Earth years). I started looking at Powder early 2003 then followed Roo to TGR. It was either become a message board widow or join the "crazy in'ernet fiends" (like this one :fm: )

Since 9/27/00...1115 posts there...blah blah blah....phUnk is still my hero.
I started posting on the old Pow Mag around late oct/early nov...roughly 2 months after they came on line...I believe sept was the 1st month correct ? So for all intents and purposes since the beginning
Still a full on JONG here (registered about a month ago), but a bit of a funny story how i found the place.
Visited biglines regularly for a while and saw pics posted there from all over the place some of which seemed to tell a story. I knew there must be somewhere these photos were posted with stories. At some point (probably sometime in Dec. 03) i found powdermag and recognized some of the names in the forum from biglines....woohooo this is the place.
Wrong!! all there seemed to be there was a bunch of people ripping on some kid from Louisiana....still no stories to go with the photos. Then one day someone (can't remember who) invited VP over here to join the fun....so i clicked the link and BINGO trip reports from Chamonix, Alaska, my own backyard, and just about everywhere else. So I lurked for a while and eventually joined the madness.
Was on EpicSki way back in the beginning of that place, when it was actually not a bad place. Back then it was kind of like this place. Hardcore skiers. The average age was just a little older then it is here. Then I went away for awhile, and when I went back, the place had turned into gapic central. I'm not sure, but I think this was a few months after powmag had started, and I had checked that place out and posted a few times but hadn't stuck around. After Epicski turned to shit I forgot the whole internet scene in general until about a year ago. I was bored one day and went back to Pmag to check it out, and low and behold no one was there. I read some posts and followed everybody over here and started posting.
While skiing last year I was skiing with a few people who started discussing one of the guys from the very begining of epic, and I mentioned I used to hang out on that board. They started proclaiming the glories of that bored, and then one of them said something about those idiots on "pewter" (this was after the exodus, so he obviously wasn't up on current affairs) and of course I had to defend all that is maggotness. Needless to say I don't ski with those people anymore.
[QUOTE=acostiga]
still waiting to have a maggot encounter on my home turf. came oh-so-close last season when i saw a single no-ka-oi learning against the wall at my local resort. i would have started asking for nickle-change, but having a broken back tends to slow one down a bit.

Acostiga, you going to the WVU game on thanksgiving? If not, we'll have to have some sort of mini at springs (or wherever) this year.
not sure it yet- don't have tickets, but they always pop up as necessary. as for the springs, i should be picking up my pass this weekend or next... but who knows when it might ever snow around here.Quote:
