Poor 'ol Bunz, glass always 3/4 empty. 5500' earned for fun, foot at the top and 5 down low, skied to within 300 yds of my door. Even got a little sun.
Ton of people out today, ran into some friends and had some great conversation. You know like talking about the positives of skiing new snow in May. For my own well being I am not going to sit at home and bicker.
Happy to be starting a remodel on Monday! And another the following week.
Maybe some of you can sit around for a couple of years and isolate yourselves from the things that keep you sane. Alas, I cannot.

Heard from a Swedish friend who lives in the states, but parents live and work in Sweden. They are both in their 70’s and living out of the “country house” for now. Woman commutes daily (public transit) to Stockholm and works a desk job with immigrant population. She takes no special precautions and claims that none of her coworkers or clients do either. Man/dad is mostly retired and always works from home. Neither have changed any of their behavior. The man’s (dad’s) explanation is that nobody’s sick in their area, and, therefore, they can carry on, biz as usual. He’s shown his daughter, via FaceTime, the public parks and restaurants districts in their area with biz as usual; bustling areas, as they always are this time of year. She said that it’s pretty different than she’s reading in the Swedish media about people voluntarily following recommendations, ie, people are actually not listening to government recommendations, at least where her folks congregate.

We're on page 697 and we're really gonna complain about a couple (pretty great for this time of year) pictures of ski tracks making it into this thread? JFC you guys need more fiber in your diet.

Big reason I am 0% worried about getting nailed by it. I have an immune system that's actually worth a shit. Thankful that our family's always been really healthy. In fact, endlessly sheltering in place is the WORST thing you can do for your immune system. We need sun. We need exercise. We need good nutrition. And sure, social distancing and everything else we're doing. But we can't forget the other things we should be doing for our own bodies.

Funny, my wife's friend flew from DEN to PHX earlier this week and said it was totally normal aside from the masks. Flight was 3/4 full.

These doomsday articles are really fucking old already. CNN is loaded with them.

I do have life insurance. A hefty policy. In fact, the sad thing is through all of this, I've become so goddammed depressed with things that I've realized I'm worth far more $$$ wise dead than alive. If it weren't for the fact that my family needs me, I maybe would've given up by now. I wouldn't mind succumbing to teh COVIDS, but alas. I fear it won't do jack to me. Meh. What can ya do?

Been meaning to start a new thread specifically about COVID related depression so I'll reserve my rant on that for another day. I'm fairly sure I'm not alone on this one these days. Sure, I've dealt with bouts of immense sadness throughout my life with its inevitable ups and downs, but something about seeing our society being transformed for the worse right before my very eyes has me in some serious doldrums. I've seen war, and this all feels far, far worse for some reason. Of course, being a dad and a husband, I have to keep that pretty bottled up. Thankfully I have you all to open up to, so I really do appreciate that. Seriously. Even you, Hut. We may have our disagreements, but I know we'd be chums IRL even if I am a big smack talker. Hopefully we'll ski together one of these days. :)

Well that settles it then. It's all been a farce. Fine. I'm sick of it. Was in town today to pick up mother's day flowers and chocolate and there were people everywhere congregating, goofing around, sitting on benches and no masks except for me. I'm done caring. . This is how the Whitehouse wants it. Que sera sera

And BTW wearing a mask in 82 degree heat sucks.

I assume you were in the military deployed in the middle east in one or more of our little wars. At least when someone is shooting at you can shoot back. (Can't shoot back at an IED I guess.) With the Covid you can hide from it but you can't fight back at it. Powerlessness is a lot more depressing than fear.

None of our wars have been fought on our soil since the Civil War and even that didn't disrupt civilian society in the way the Great Depression did.. Wars tend to bring societies together, at least as long as you are winning, or think you are.* Economic collapse--Depressions, hyperinflation-- splits people apart.

*I read a story today about a Holocaust survivor. As the Germans were being beaten back after D Day they kept moving the inmates of the camps from camp to camp to keep the Allies from finding them. The guy in question was confronted by a young German soldier who pointed his gun at him and told him that he could live if he said the German army was winning. The man replied--The Germans have already won. He's still alive today--wound up as an executive in Mexico. You will keep fighting if you can be convinced you're winning and you'll be easy to convince.

It reminds me of when seat belt laws first went into place. There were lots of people who refused to wear a seat belt and it never made sense to me. You're in a fucking car sitting in a seat. It's not like you're moving around a lot and just can't be constrained by a seat belt. Some people just cannot accept being told what to do, no matter how much sense it makes.

My Swedish friend, who does research in a branch of public health.... her take away, she may not have a chance to see her folks again.

Around me, it’s kind 50-75% folks wearing masks indoors. Less outdoors in uncrowded places. It’s weird see people that I know at the crowded grocery stores not wearing one. Our county has very few known cases and very little testing available until recently. There’s a growing hippy contingency that are straying harder than ever to the libertarian right.... :sigh:

Yuba County, just north of Sacramento, fully opened this up this week, against state order. The State has officially told the County, “apparently, you have no emergency and, therefore, you are no longer eligible for emergency funding.” The County BOS had a special meeting to reconsider their prior decision. At the same time, some municipalities in Cali will be giving $1000 fines for repeat offenders against social distancing and mask wearing.
