Killington once again proving they are the best ski area in the east.
Free for Ikon pass holders and $25 for everyone else, all of which they are donating to Rutland County Pride for Pride Month. Being that I burned my last Ikon day yesterday, stoke!
See y’all bright and early on Thursday!

here we go again!
two days off for one day on.
it's like a half operating week in the middle of a whole week.
in a purely fractal environment, we'd then get another day off,
and a half day on (9-12 saturday) but that was so last year.
this year if we walk the headwall it will be for the first time
this year we close the hill at 5pm:yourock:

sunday's costume of the day
Had my doubts MSS would be able to pull off yesterday’s last night ski. Was pretty sweet! Car thermometer said 31C (88F) when we pulled into the lot.

Imagine this is the first step towards vail buying Smuggs
^ Well that sucks.
I won't be shocked if it gets blocked by some environmental group.
or every environmental group
Hey I am planning a presidential traverse run in a few days. Has anyone been up there lately to ski and have an idea how much snow and ice i will cross? I know the usual gulleys and bowls hold snow but usually the ridge is clear in June.
Any beta out there?
Basically should I bring traction?
Thanks!

Smuggs sent an email to pass holders today with a link to a comments section https://www.smuggs.com/connect?utm_s...Q4MDEwMDMzNAS2
They can’t even build a parking lot on the stowe side, but they think that is going to work?

the originator of this thread portended a big finish.
we doubted it was coming til the ides of march.
2.5 months later killington finally closed superstar.
in spite of 12 of may's 14 operating days being bathed in warm sun,
the trail showed no stress til the week before memorial day weekend.
via webcam we watched ops make things good as new.
after memorial day, the snowpack appeared to be coming apart.
thursday morning, after a full night of precision grooming, K opened with top to bottom coverage, and closed with the same, minus some vert rugged brown and chunky bumps for last half dozen turns.
A BIG FINISH IT WAS and all the better, VT-freeheel was there, and finshed his day skiing in jeans. (sorry no pics)

Pretty amazing. Almost looks like like they could go another couple days if they wanted

un veiledQuote:
Smugglers’ Notch executives argued in communications with the state that plans and details for a connector lift should be considered confidential, which would have shielded them from becoming available through public records act requests and claimed that keeping the plans secret gave the resort a business advantage that would be compromised by revealing them publicly.
Great effort by Killington to have the last skiing in the east but today at the West River Sports fundraiser in Londonderry, Magic showed why it’s the best mountain in New England by beating the Beast by 2 days.

nice! i thought their saved pile was for another mini park.
this has a little length.
Yeah, that’s a lot more snow than I was expecting based on the pics they’ve been posting. Fun stuff
Ok let’s get this straight-
I see a lift , I’m certain skiing is happening and I’m sure people are being served.
That’s my hill.
Oh and they had world class athletes enjoying it all. The champagne fountain from the race winners.

It was a great party. Ben O and J Diggs were so stinking fast on the up, it was insane.
Great music by Saints & Liars, Bow Thayer Band with Krishna Guthrie on bass, and they did a 5 song set together at the end. June 3 and most spectating folks had at least a down puffy on when the closed out at 8:00pm.
I'm going to go ski that patch in a bit.

Sure is great to see all you folks still getting some.
My son was pretty bummed to miss closing day at Killington, so after seeing all the snow on the webcam :rolleyes2, he decided to head up.
The snow patches looked much bigger on TV.

First real physical exertion in 7 weeks and I was hurting. The kid was pumped, so it was well worth it. Skiing (questionable use of the term) is still fun!
Powder days in June on the rock pile - Mount Washington, known for extreme weather, records its snowiest June https://www.wcax.com/2023/06/12/moun...snowiest-june/
