Thanks for the report Dookey. Wonder if you need all the clearance of a Tacoma to get back there? Might try it with my previa next week.

If your willing to work for it there is still lots of snow up high in the Tahoe area.

This area above Showers lake looks fun, short runs but looks fun and smooth, taken from the rim trail near the xmas valley trail on Friday.

I don't have a pic but the Crystal range looks fat!
i'd have to guess that in previous years you weren't venturing back to lola anywhere near this early. the snow is typically good this time of year and the suncups aren't typically an issue until june.
if you'd rather drive for it than work for it, sonora pass is holding the goods. hutchski on three things at once. skied the stuff in the background (right off the road) the next day. crossing deadman's creek may be an issue by now or in the near future but the other typical lines right off the pass start on snow from the car. (more from the trip here)

Took this photo of the Crystal Range today

Broken Glass down to the waterfall on the Rose summer trail skied well. The dogs and I took the scenic tour back via Relay Road in tennis shoes and shorts with a beer in hand…

you're absolutely on point with that. in fact, i was mentioning that to both Vets and Gone2Alpine the other day. I believe in previous spring/summers we didn't venture out to Lola until late June/early July.
still, even though we've hit it earlier this season and last season, there's still a nice cache of snow up there and it should be skiable well into July, possibly longer.
that said, a nice freeze/thaw cycle would be swell.
on the suncup front, I've never really encountered too many of 'em up on Lola over the past few seasons...

Legitimate 12-15 inches on top of monument so far. Made two laps up that way. Im gonna call it face shots and core shots..... ok only 1 face shot on this solo trip in a wind loaded area. Other than that it was a good day.
What do you mean I can't come

Headed to Mammoth to ski on Friday with my son...
I was hoping to put him in an hour long pop-up lesson but apparently that shut down last week...
Anyone have any leads to people that want to earn some cash to ski with my kid for an hour so dad can ski some steeps? Shoot me a PM. Otherwise, I'm 100% Piste City. :)
Camping at Lower Lee Vining and touring around the Saddle bag lakes area this weekend. anyone else headed there? Likely climbing at Owen's River Gorge and maybe skiing at Mammoth on Sunday or Monday.
look for a white sportsmobile.
Skiing stoke?
I had fun on Friday with my son....no gnar, just old fashion bluebird groomers and a beer to end the day :)

Casey, you are a good dad.
yeah good stuff right there
Nice corn cycle now occurring in Tahoe area:Attachment 155886
Hey I'm looking for a short dirt hike to the snow line near Tahoe. Sugar Bowl looks like 40 minutes as of yesterday. How is Carson pass?
Likely way more than 40 minutes. Try Kirkwood
Thanks! ^^
Waiting for the last gate to Blue Lakes to pop. Vets says the nipple is holding good snow.
We skied Ebbets today and Folgers and Hiram are fucking phat with the goods.
Is it a mudfest accessing the snow at cp?
Any word on Woods Lake opening soon?
not sure about corn, given that it hasn't frozen in quite some time and you can't really have corn w/o a serious freeze/thaw cycle, but, that said, I skied some decent enough soft-serve up on the west side of Castle Peak last Wed.

According to the Alpine County Website it opens today (6/6.)
Vets - I'll keep you posted if I decide to get some clearance to get up there...
In case anyone is interested, here is my take on some of the 2014 season:

^^ Timelapse storm project. Everyone loves a time lapse right? Haha. Well played. How many times have you done that?
Just once! Because this fort I found had no bench...
drug vets and my lady, KP, up the westside of Castle Peak on Thursday, 6/5. Supreme soft-serve with minimal suncups.
KP getting some low-angle goodness:

hit up The Nipple on Friday 6/6, again with Vets and KP, but got a late start and ultimately kinda skunked by a freak thunderstorm (the lady was the voice of reason and managed to drag me'n Vets off the ridge before we got electrocuted). soft-serve up top, mashable suncups down low.
Vets being chased by the storm:

I'm headed up for a day Roundtop & Sisters via Woods Lake on Thursday if anyone is interested. Plan is to attack Moon Crescent, and all the three Sisters.
There is a fine patch above the Mt Judah Trail in the usual place, as you approach the saddle between Judah and Donner. Several hundred yards wide. It does offer only 5-30 feet of vertical, but should make for some great fun for those who are into traversing.
Attempting to milk the Truckee/North Tahoe area as much as possible before resigning myselft to pure Eastern Sierra summer skiing.
Poked around the Meadow Lake Road and White Rock Lake area on Thursday 6/12 and discovered some new (to me) acess roads that got me up behind Mt. Lola and crossing the PCT. Ended up skiing a quadrant of patches right off the PCT, shortest of which was a mere 3 turns; longest of which was a whopping 10 turns (I slush 8'd myself on that one).
Still breaking in my Blizzard Peacemakers, which are turning out to be a fine pair of patch skis.

Had a blast skiing over on Carson Pass on Thursday with Vets. I ended up spending all day skiing and hiking Moon Crescent and all the three Sisters chutes. It was crazy windy but the air temperature was just warm enough to keep us comfortable.

Middle Sisters gnar face...a bit sketchy climb with hollow spots and the hardest spot I've ever put on skis...

And the final Sister chute all the way down to Round Top Lake...

Left the car at 8:50am and arrived back at the car at 5:30pm.
