I got the go-ahead to sleep without my brace at 4 weeks. But was non weight bearing for 12 weeks. To answer your question about knee swelling........ As you start PT, you can expect it to stay swollen a lot of the time. Ice and elevation helps! When I asked my OS how long to expect the swelling, he said at least a year. I ended up buying gel ice packs from my PT, which are great because they cover the whole knee and conform to the shape of the knee.
