Colorado Weather Discussion Thread

This week is kind of broken. Just too warm and too cloudy. Got out to 13k today and it didn't seem like there was any freeze at all up to around 12-12.5k. I could punch down about 1-2' through rotten snow with my pole basket. Even at 13k is was pretty bad. Was woompfing like crazy, and collapsing pretty far out. Seemed like lots of friction though since no test slopes were moving. Just collapsing. Bailed for a lowish angle slope with low consequences. Skied pretty good corn down to 11.5k, when things became slow inpredictable mush. This was around 9-10am. Oh well. Still fun, but I'd rather be biking than skiing low consequence sub-40 slopes. Looking at the weather, I don't think the skiing will be that great/safe over the next 5 days. Not worth the recon unless we see the pattern change, imo.

Thanks for the report. I was wondering since temps dont look like they've been below freezing and cloudy skies.

What aspect(s) were you on? Wondering if north facing are any better or all similar.

All varieties of E. Considering what I saw, doubtful. Temps are just way too warm and no real radiative cooling. Maybe high walled N couloirs?

Same here. Dumped rain last night. A little unnerving to say the least. The river corridors are still so fragile around here and groundwater levels are very high so there is less infiltration than normal. Crazy to watch water runoff grassy areas like that...

Rain? Sure looks like snow at the bottom of Loveland. I see snow flakes on the Bert cam as well. Looking at the ridges around Georgetown snow line looks to be about 10.5k. Might be worth skiing something tomorrow. No solid freezes but temps overnight have been flirting with it and the lack of sun the past few days helps to keep things a little cool.

Yep, raining from WP to Berthoud Falls this morning (drove over around 11).
Trail Ridge was closed. Maybe it snowed decent there?

I would guess that they were trying to keep Texas and Nebraska outa there more so than a ton of snow. Too warm if bet for much accumulation.

I've been watching the Loveland webcam the last couple of days. No rain whatsoever, just lovely snowflakes piling up on the stake. Skied laps on the pass this morning, totally worth it. Awesome conditions for skiing and climbing, some graupel balls mixed in there. :)

Anyone have details on the rockslide on Loveland pass?

84 at the Dowd station today.... WOW

Heard the rockslide debris was 6-7' deep at the road and cdot was working to clear it this morning. Haven't checked since then.

Was down in Boulder today for a meeting. Wow am I glad I don't live down there in that heat. Rivers are really starting to crank around here

Yeah, I took a ride up to Lyons and also up Boulder Canyon this PM. Love watching the rivers come alive.
