Posted this is the "How to get into good physical shape" thread, but there is much less bullshit here:
Did a lactate threshold test yesterday (Friel's 30 minute running test). It was by far my highest result in the 4 times I've done the test, up 8 bpm from last time. Some factors that might have influenced this result:
I'm living at about 5,400' instead of 60.'
I've been doing fewer, but longer runs with much more vertical. About the same number of hours per week on average.
I've been climbing (mostly in a gym) more and lifting less. Climbing recovery seems to interfere less with running.
I lost 15 pounds.
My question is, am just fitter, or is there some relationship between altitude an lactate threshold heart rate? Anybody have any ideas what's going on? I want to make sure I keep what's working. Thanks.
Biggest difference is probably the weight.
Did the Boulder Skyline Traverse yesterday:

Gorgeous!
I LOVE trail running.
How long was the route?
^^^ 16 miles, 6150' uphill, 4900' downhill.
Fackin-eh! Nice work all around! Have only just started to stop for pics on long runs myself- not that I have any instinct or taller at it...http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...deb6c4baac.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ac5fa2df13.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...349ec8b7ec.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...558d3014a9.jpg
Got in to run NYC Half!
10 week training starts on January 9th, race day March 19th!!
Excited to get back in routines and Sunday long runs.
First off, don't get hurt at the mountain.
Congrats!
Is that lottery or a qualifying time?
It's lottery.
Or you could run for a charity and raise funds.
This race means a lot to me because this was the race gave me a confidence to run a full marathon.
My first half was so hard I couldn't dare to think to run another half to complete a full marathon.
Then this race came along and gave me a glimpse of hope.
Is is so special to run down Times Square with no traffic and finish at the World Trade Center.

It's pretty inspirational to just watch all that humanity running by too...so many different shapes, ages & fitnesses, all out doing it...good stuff
Glad you're psyched about it!
It really is.
I trained NYC marathon with a lady who's in her late 70's and she runs several marathons a year.
I wish I could be like her in... crap... 30 years.
Such a nice morning yesterday. I only had time get out for about an hour but it sure was an hour well spent.

Congratulations!
I've been able to squeeze in short runs a few times a week after work. As soon as the livestock is done grazing and the snow starts to pile up, we will have to switch to xc skiing.

Aren't you living on the east coast? Tons of great xc there, in fact it beats the snot out of downhill most of the time.
Some friends of mine back in MA introduced me to xc skiing. I lived in the metro west area outside Boston. There was a lot of good xc skiing within an easy 15-20 min drive from my apartment. I've been spoiled here, when there's enough snow. I just out go out the front door.
