Explain to me why if I don't run the fan when frying, my smoke detectors goes off and yet if I do run the fan, the smoke detector doesn't go off.

I guess it could be some weird coincidence. Or maybe you are just an idiot.

GladeMaster is on a roll with his dis-information campaign today. Ours is vented outside and sucks the smoke out of the kitchen in under a minute, but ya, it doesn't work.

We lack wax rings on our ducts, but if the fan is really needed I do tend to open a window. Sometimes it takes a little work to convince my wife that the open window shouldn't be the one right next to the fan. I should blame her upbringing but I usually forget.

Yes, 750 CFM roof-mounted blower. The intake end under the hood ain't all it should be, but roof mount sure keeps the noise down.

Spent a few hours cleaning up the yard last weekend including running new hose down to the lower portion of the yard. Hung it up on the fence so my wife can use it to water the plants.

Not impossible, but much harder. Also much easier to un-fuck if needed. They're also just much better hoses overall (IMVHO) and don't cost any more than than good vinyl/rubber hoses.

The solution to loud vent exhaust systems is very simple, get one where the fan and motor are either outside the building or in a crawl space.

There was no presumption made at all, but rather a spurious inference on your part. Code requires a source of make-up air with a barometric damper if you are installing a hood that moves more than 400cfm of air, regardless of how leaky your house is.

I didn't say they don't work, I simply said they are not as effective as many people want them to be, given the cfm that most residential hoods move.
