Yo FZ!! Good to see you. Still down Boony Vista way?
Down wind... Buenie blows,... Salida sucks, as the old timers say....and the winter winds blow, too... From Oct thru May.
Sup, B?
Getting old, knee degrading, shipping the little girl off to college here in a few weeks.
Playing support role for the failing inlaws while L does the yeomans work of feeding, cleaning and doctor appointments. I only get called in for emergency room grade stuff. Ties us down.
Still hitting Silverton a few times a year, Taos less often since I've not been doing the Ikon the last year. Haven't been to T'ride, Monarch or Wolf Creek in ages. PNW overcrowded with small windows of sweet.
I hope you're well. What's up with you?
(and TH/DJ, ask Mark N if he knows what's behind the weedy, reference Vars/Risoul)
Came in to ask a question, stumbled across the chair-auction debate. Years ago, I worked for a smaller area in Vermont that tried to sell chairs, succeed with a handful, and then seemed to avoid keeping an eye on the rest as the number in the back of the parking lot dwindled. I regret being too practical and not asking for one, because now I have somewhere I could put one and every chair-purchase opportunity I've seen has been decidedly more money than I'm willing to part with.
Question to JH folks: anyone got a connection at Pirate Ship? (shipping ecomm outfit, mostly remote with a Jackson HQ) I recently submitted an application and I'd love to (a) nudge it in the right direction and (b) hear from anyone with actual knowledge about what it's like to work for them. Many thanks.
They recently went through (are going through) some institutional turmoil. Lawsuits between the founders, who were friends. Basically, one got bought out with terms that he agreed to at the time, business blew up way higher than they expected, and now he’s trying to claw back some cash. I know one of the players, but I don’t know enough to have an opinion.
HTH
Thanks. I got pointed to the news article on that, which reads as you described and it's tough to read much into that without knowing more than is in the news. It's actually reassuring that you know one of the players but not enough to have an opinion, because (absent more info) it would suggest a "this is why you need to be able to separate business decisions from personal feelings" versus a "yeah, that guy does stuff like this all the time" situation.
Hey all. Hope you are enjoying your summer's.
Question for the local mags.
See that the bridge construction and intersection is progressing at WY22 & WY390.
Attachment 498209
Wondering whether this is all going to be wrapped up before
the ski season commences ? And if the reconstruction will
have an effect on mitigating the traffic jam on 390 leaving
the ski hill at the end of the day ?
Status of the traffic jam is going to influence our choice of
accommodations location for this winter. Trying to nail down
a place now. Never to early.
Id recommend buying one of the 25M studios at the village. Seems easiest.
Thanks.
Thought of that. But a studio would be tight for
our core crew of 3 - 5 even though we're tight.
Stop by this winter for some turn'n and burn'n.
The bridge construction seems to be a bit more than half done. I didn't have any inside knowledge or anything but expect it to be complete early summer 2025 based on past press. The new span has been completed and traffic moved to it in the southern two lanes. The old bridge is now being demo'd and a new two lanes will be built in its place. I expect traffic to be the same to maybe slightly better this winter just due to expanded right hand turn Lane towards the pass.

Hmmm, and no ginormous potholes.
Thanks Kokomas.
Good to know.
Can anyone recommend a good gravel ride or two? Have some relatives in town that are good cyclists and I don't know what I'm talking about. Here or pm me thanks

It's not gravel but my in-laws were blown away by the Moose Wilson Rd loop up to Moose and then the pathway through the park and back to town.
Our pathway access is pretty amazing so might as well utilize that
Go to Ride With GPS. You can use the free version to search gravel routes in your area. Just go to the "Explore" tab. I took a quick peek and there's tons of routes around Jackson. Be mindful of distance and elevation gain, especially with folks from the lowlands. I pay for it so my access may be greater. I'm sure someone in your area pays for it and can offer advice if the free version doesn't do it for you.
Here in Vermont, we consider anything under 100 feet per mile "easy"
Two good ones from town are:
elk refuge with Curtis canyon climb for a hard lunch run
Pritchard pass loop. 90% pavement but need gravel for the 10%. On the highway between Hoback junction and the gravel turn but it’s downhill if you ride clockwise and there’s a wide shoulder.
For farther afield, there’s tons of stuff on west side of the pass or north of Flagg Ranch. Part of the Around the Rock loop.
