Thanks guys. Dog was my 5 year olds shadow. My son watched as I lay him in the ground to bury him and he asked me when he would be coming back to play with him. Tough day, I post here because everyone in this thread gets it. We have all lost great dogs, it's never gets easier.

Dang easy, the older we get - the more emotional we get. Those are some heart wrenching photos. The little ones complicate this for sure.

Fuck. The Mrs. is calling the vet about putting Athena down. Was hoping she'd make it to the end of the school year for the kids, but it's not looking like it will happen.
I forgot how much this sucks.

Said goodbye to my companion of the past 12 years today. Truly a good boy. The doggiest dog I’ve ever known. Hurts like hell, but I couldn’t stand to see him suffer. He lived his life fully stoked and was a puppy at heart until the end. He’d chased his ball up, down, and across North America. Swam in so many lakes, rivers, and oceans that I lost count. Even took a giant emergency dump in front of the Utah Capitol building on a road trip. He was with me through all of my darkest days and right beside me during my brightest and best. His health tanked so quickly that we feel like he left too soon…thought we had more time, but eventually the good memories will override these past few difficult weeks.
Vibes to all those who have loved and lost.
