I have 4 wedges but I don't use his system... at least not intentionally.

Need a fourth for next Friday at Fossil Trace at 330. Also have a spot open for Hyland Hills next Saturday at 930 and two spots two weeks from today at CommonGround at 9.
Also, if any Mags are going to the US Am Championship next Sunday, let's hook up for a couple beers. We'll be there for the start of the 36 hole championship but will probably leave after the front nine of the second 18.
thanks for the reminder, motherfucker. i've still got to post my armed forces of ecuador golf course tr. shockingly, nobody took me up on my invitation.
We haven't played in a while; my putting isn't going that well. It's pretty streaky but I do show flashes of decentness every now and then. Take last round for instance, 20 putts on the front and 14 on the back. Too inconsistent. That said, I'll be pretty bummed if I don't break 80 by first frost. When I do, we'll get back out so I can keep up. It has to happen, I've been gradually getting more consistent, especially with my approaches.
I keep saying I won't be happy 'til I'm consistently under 30 putts but is that a reasonable expectation? What is everyone else happy with putt total-wise?
Keep up? Shit dude, I have played maybe 20 rounds total this year......it has been brutal trying to get out.
I might be the one donating....oh yeah, no more playing for "score", we play for money. It is a game, and you bet in a game, unless it is competition or prep for competition. Put something on the line and watch those scores drop fast.
Funny you say that. My buddy flying in says the same thing and told me to set aside some money for him to win while he's here. I told him to fuck off and he laughed and said if we played for a even a little cash (like a buck a hole), he bets I'd shoot my best round of the season while he's here.
There may be some truth to the playing for money thing...
Money on the line improving focus is a huge difference maker for me. I've been accused of hustling before while playing with some acquaintances of a friend at Stonetree. Was kind of hacking my way through a round making a lot of bogies, then with 6 holes left one of the guys puts a good amount of money on the line and I get pressured into it (usually I'm game but I was already playing like shit that day). Went 3 under for the last 6 holes and the guy was absolutely pissed, which was far more satisfying than winning the dough.
i went to redtail this evening and played with my illustrious Troon Intrepid clubs. they're not as flexy as i thought, mainly because i swing a lot slower now, but jesus these things weigh a TON compared to the cobras i was playing with. i think i'm okay with the putter i have for now, but i need to get some new used irons. i may just play with irons until i find a suitable cheap driver. i'm sure i would still score lower using irons than i did with this set with a driver. i think someone mentioned that a good player can hit anything, but i'm not a good player and i don't want to screw up what i spent 2 months learning to cater to shitty not-even-knock-off clubs.
Craigslist or Ebay, do it now.
Search for Mizuno irons. Tzoid Pro, or Tzoid Pro II are great and ultra cheap. Most anything from the MP series (more money) will blow most brands out of the water in your price range. The shafts really don't matter unless they are ladies or X flex, i.e., anything will be better than what you have.
PLan on spending between 75-190 for a set of Mizunos. Check the condition for too much rusting, these are all forged clubs and the protective chrome will wear off. You are serious enough now to play a forged club and these are NOT blades ....do it dude, now. Then we will work on woods.
My Titleist 913 driver is coming soon, cool.
the opposite can happen too....
I was playing at Castle Pines Golf Club for my birthday last week and one of the kids, a very up and coming college player (home town out on Long Island), just crumbled after we put money on the line....granted, there were some heavy hitters in this group in terms of fame and fortune, but still it was kind of fun to watch him choke, then come back and make some GREAT shots to win something back...a real treat.
I donated, then won something back at Poker later, that pisses people off more than anything....losing big at poker.
Just wait till you see people throw their clubs into the water, off cliffs, at the cart, breaking clubs....I have seen it all.
For some reason Spook and golf seem to go well. Maybe DBT could join them for a round.
Playing for money is all about your comfort zone .
If you have a grand in your pocket and are playing for a hundred , no problem .
If you have a hundred in your pocket and you're playing for grand , different story .
Overpriced, cast, and they are generally oversized heads, not the best for learning with IMO. I believe people need a smaller blade-like club to learn with, they make faster progress and learn to hit actual shots faster than with some oversize-forgiving-game-improver clubs.
What do the golfers in the thread think about the Adams Redlines? The Mizuno suggestions in the past have been duly noted.
Stating to explore my options. Should be pulling the trigger in, at most, three weeks.
Clubs have always been a comfort/appearance/feel/ and lastly distance thing for me. I have to grow an attachment to my clubs, with the exception of my driver and putter. Those need to know that they can be replaced at any time for them to behave properly.
Pissed the bed at US Mid-Am qualifying today. Shot 75, the number to get in was 70. Nothing was good out there today. I don't like making excuses, but I've been on Prednisone for a week due to a bad reaction to poison ivy. The poison ivy is gone, but I've really been feeling weird while taking this. Anybody else ever been on it? I had no concentration and focus, felt like I was in a fog all day. Normally I concentrate much better in tournament rounds vs regular rounds. Oh well.
I haven't been on it, but a friend of mine was recently and was kind of out of it all week at work. I have the same problem during allergy season - I have no choice but to take the meds, and my swing will be fine, but I can't concentrate on my short game at all. Feels like I'm watching myself putt and chip.
What do you guys think about a golf forum on TGR?
TR's, questions, etc needs it's own forum imo.
We need fewer forums and threads, not more. When you add forums, you wind up with an echo chamber, the same few people posting essentially the same things. We're getting along fine with the two or three threads we have.
I just got off the phone with the GM of Cherry Hills after being hung-up on not once, but twice, by the dumb fucking cunts at the local USGA office after they couldn't answer why I needed a ticket from the championship to watch FREE FUCKING PRACTICE ROUNDS.
This dumb bitch at the USGA, instead of asking someone else, I guess had a DERRRR moment or some shit. Either that or she couldn't explain why I needed to show a ticket I wouldn't have in my posession 'til the 19th on the fucking 11th to watch, again, a free practice round.
The GM of Cherry Hills comes on all fucking smug and says, "Sorry, sir. The rounds are complimentary for people attending Championship week." I told her we were and asked why sell tickets at the venue day of but not let these people come watch meaningless golf and practice range sessions; would it not raise revenue? Also, do you think someone who wants to go to the practice rounds wouldn't at least go to one day of the actual event? After she kept repeating herself because even she knew the policy doesn't make any fucking sense, I told her thanks for her time and hung up.
I find it hard to believe the USGA has people representing them that would treat a potential spectator this way; the CH GM was just relaying shitty info. I don't hold that aginst her.
Fuck, I'm pissed. There goes going and getting pictures of the practice rounds and courses. Goddamn it. Been looking forward to it for a hot minute.
^ man, it is almost like they don't really care about the casual 1-day fan?!?!?!?!?!?!?
