Was hiking the AT in northern Maine and came to a dirt road crossing where there were tons of lit up cop cars, ambi, fire.
I walked toward them and saw something that cannot be unseen.
A woman in a yellow convertible chrysler lebaron didn't see a moose and drove under its legs with the windshield of the car slicing the moose's belly and gravity did its job as the hundreds of pounds of bullwinkle landed on top of her and killed her. I can't recall ever seeing that much blood in one place, ever. You couldn't even see her under the splayed out animal.
Didn't get the plate, sorry.
My dad hit a moose on the highway in VT and he was lucky to come out unscathed. He had 2 vehicles at the time- a Jetta and a big Chevy truck and luckily he was driving the truckQuote:

I mentioned this book "Fuzz" by Mary Roach in the book thread this week- it's a fun read especially for those of us that live amongst wildlife- but anyway she has a chapter on collisions and she talks about how the mass coming down on the roof frequently causing fatal neck/ spinal injuries.
