Skied pow too last week. Was it Friday? Sorry was Friday before..this past Friday was odd skiing as snow at Alta had a crust and vis was low. Had some good runs though. Ballroom and thirds were good. Think you did storm skiing I waited til it was deep. Was about 10th through high notch that day. Run of the day for sure. So what's your point? I ski plenty enough. I am not in favor of a tram on Baldy, the reason I ski Alta is the ability to go places touron's don't want to go or don't know how to get to. Back to me being delusional, here is what Alta said last week.Quote:

We collect seeds from native plants, including wildflowers, dry the seeds and then use the seed in re-vegetation projects. We maintain trails and roads as directed by Forest Service. Maura Olivos leads our Alta Environmental Center (AEC), which oversees our environmental activities. The mission of the AEC reflects a real love, concern and passion for improving and protecting the Alta environment.
The Future
Alta Ski Area is committed to working with our stakeholders and partners to accommodate and manage growth in environmentally responsible and sustainable ways that enable us to preserve the heart and soul of Alta. Issues that we believe should be priorities include traffic flow, parking, public transportation, improved avalanche mitigation methods and infrastructure improvements that can accommodate growth. This is the second time someone said that Mike Maughan does not ski, that is wrong. I had no idea who he was until this season, rode the lift with him wearing his name tag. After that I saw him regularly out and about. We saw him at Alf's and Watson's walking around, talking to employees, talking to customers. Saw him at lifts talking to employees etc. We bumped into him one day on Supreme and I mentioned one particular lift supervisor who does a great job, he thanked me, said complaints are what he normally hears. I saw him more this year than I saw Onno in ten years. Mike was at the top of Collins watching the events unfold with Patrol when the skier suffered cardiac arrest. Saw him skiing on a groomer, he seemed to be better than average. BTW, he made the decision to continue to spin Sugarloaf the last three weekends, Onno always shut it down.Quote:

I like alta and have had some great days there. I also have seen a lot of terrain shut down and it get tracked in 2 hours. I like wildcat but it is really slow and if the lift went a bit further/faster that would be better IMO.

A buddy and I are planning to hit Suicide Chute for the first time Saturday morning. A couple questions for the more wise:
1) I'm thinking we want to descend around 9 am for best corn quality / avy risk.... Does that sound right?
2) Should I have boot crampons?
3) If yes, anybody got some boot crampons I could borrow / buy? I'd rather not spend $150 on a brand new set since I'll rarely use them.

I agree with zion zig zag, but with this preface: having been in that neighborhood yesterday, I'd wait a few weeks to ski old country lane as it typically smooths out as the summer skiing season progresses. there was a good amount of junk and roller balls in the chute yesterday. There was a booter in the chute yesterday, so that might allow ya to go without crampons, but like ZZZ said, hopefully you'll need them.Quote:
