Snake and skunk rescuing?? I’ve stumbled into the wrong thread. I saw a 18” long snake from a mountain bike earlier today and skipped a breath.
That said I did have two separate black bear encounters while mountain biking in northern VT this season and was less freaked out than If it has been a snake or a skunk. I am not instinctively rationale apparently.
Seeing moose isn't too unusual, but four at once was amazing. The drama was two bulls bellowing at each other while a cow in estrus and her 6 month old calf munched on some shrubs.

This was just after we skirted momma and the two calves. The small bull had been in the willows and moved up on the bank right when we passed. It was definitely too close for comfort but it was almost 6pm and we had like 4 more miles to float

Couple weeks ago I thought I saw a stick in the trail of course it turned out to be a snake, and at the last second I bunny hopped it and slammed on the brakes. It was still there, perfectly fine. I moved it off the trail but I did feel pretty full of myself after that.Quote:

I've been MB riding in a state park not far from my house for the past 30 plus years. I had never even seen a moose until I was 39 years old and that was in AK. Over the past 5-6 years, I've seen a cow with a yearling and another cow about a year later.
This year, actually over the past month, I have encountered a bull just off the trail, nearly ran into a cow and a calf who's ass-ends were in the middle of the trail while they were munching bushes, two days later, another cow and just today, a rather large bull who was standing crossways in the trail about 50' in front of me. Also, just about a block from home on a golf course, a bull, cow, and two calves were congregated off the side of one of the holes by the river that runs by.
It's amazing how these animals have proliferated over the past few decades. When I started riding the park, never even gave it a thought. Now my eyes are wide open hoping to not make a move that gets me trampled. Pretty cool.
They haven't actually proliferated. They've all moved close to roads and trails to gawk at the tourists. What, you thought people were the only vertebrates that like to look at strange creatures?
