The tips tails pass at big sky is such a killer deal. Even if just for April 1-12.
250$. Snowpack at peak. Noone around, pleasant temps. Lodging cheaper/cheapest. Vanning/ camping easy- not boneyard cold.
I'm planning on April 1-10. See yous on the hill!

Here is a recap of my trip into the Spanish Peaks along with a few photos.I originally planned to do a loop starting in the north but got to the trailhead only to learn it was closed due to grizz activity. So I went plan B

Plan B was an out and back trip that would total about 18 miles. The trail headed up this drainage.

After a few miles and bit of elevation gain, the trees started to give way.

Things really opened up and it is a beautiful basin. Off in the distance on the right of this pic, you can see the pass I would cross.

I gained the pass. This is looking back down the basin I just hiked.

From the pass, I traversed north a bit to a hanging valley and my destination. One of the coolest lakes I've ever camped.

What a freakin’ view.

And at over 9000’ it was even more spectacular at dark. I set my alarm at 11;30, peaked out of the tent, and boom..it was on. It’s always a little freaky being out at dark in grizz country but this was one of the best stargazing sessions I’ve had in a long time.

Sunrise, and total serenity. There was a touch of lingering smoke around from nearby fires providing even more color.

This place was perfect,

Swimmy wins MT Maggot Summer. I've slept outside once this summer. Doing a quick overnight tonight. Hope the smoke isn't too bad.
What kind of pack is Kirby wearing? I need to get one for my boy.

No it’s my 1993 camper I’ve had for the last 12 years. I gutted it and remodeled it, but it’s the OG model and still going strong.
