that’s the question I asked - why?
service & repair
I have a few pairs of Hagan race skis on which I've done this many times to service some ancient Dynafit heels that are prone to seizing up (but can be disassembled upon removal from the ski), to swap bindings (in the same holes), and to create complete workable bindings from partially workable sets.
I always use GE Silcone II glue (not caulk) on those skis.
The Hagan race ski internal mounting plate is so strong that I've done this probably at least a dozen times on one pair of my Hagan race skis, with zero spinners.
I’m surprised that top racers need to service and repair regularly since I assume they use new equipment every year. I’ve encountered bindings that need service but typically they have seen years worth of dust, mud and grit
racers ski harder than you
thanks Jon
Is there an ATK model that you would consider as a sidecountry/cross over binding like the Shift?
I don’t doubt it. Ive skied with high level skimo racers who have competed at the World Cup level and haven’t heard of them dealing with binding problems so I’m curious what problems they encounter. I would imagine the problems they encounter are not often repairable but I really don’t know and Id like to learn more.
I dunno
that’s just what they told me when I asked why
I would speculate removing bindings makes it easier to stone grind/change structure for varying conditions. No it a tech though so could be wrong.
I didn’t

Looking for some insight on differences between Haute Route 10 and Haute Route Plus. I saw on Skimo co that the toe pieces are different on the new Plus model as well as them having the dual magnetic heel risers. Is it worth going with the Plus for the extra dough (I can get the standards on sale, about one fiddy less than the Plus). Do the standards only have one heel riser? Judging by pics of them it appears they have two??

Did some searching to no avail - Is there a paper template for the R12 that has the BSL built in (like the binding freedom templates). Seems like more room for error using the ATK method of "place boot where you want it and draw a line" than what I'm used to.
Not that I found either, but I did a pair this week and thought the ATK method worked fine in the end. Like you, I was hoping to find one with the BSL built in since I've done dozens of mounts with those type of templates over the years. I guess I can see how ATK doesn't want to deal with how boot pin insert locations can vary slightly by boot. In the end I think the method is quite accurate and I got a perfect mount out of it. One recommendation: use the boot to eyeball/locate the toe pin insert line and the heel insert line on one ski, then just measure those line locations relative to the boot center line and copy them over to the other ski. That'll ensure both skis are exactly the same and take out any error from eyeballing the boot location.
How wide of a ski could the Raider 13 Evo with the 108mm brake accommodate?
Thanks
Raider/Freeraider SL... anyone get their hands on this binding yet? I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want it over the RT Evo or Raider Evo outside of cost savings.
Does anyone here have access to a Freeride 14 2.0 (8 hole, front break) pdf template? ATK removed it from their website and the wayback machine doesn't have it either. I contacted them about it and they asked me to send the bindings in and they would repair/replace them at a cost (they're not broken) and mount them with a Jig, which is not at all what I asked.
Cheers
Why do you need a template when you have the actual bindings? Some careful measuring is all you need. If you really want a template then make from from the bindings:
For both a toe and heel, place binding on sheet of paper
Marker all the hole centres
Draw a line across each pair of holes centres and mark half way across
Draw a line through all the 'half way' marks to create a centre line
Mask-up the ski and draw centre line
Click boot into the toe binding and push the heel binding pins in to the boot leaving the 4mm gap (rubber band the brake up)
Place complete boot/bindings assembly on ski and align boot centre line with mount line to figure out the fore/aft positioning of your toe and heel templates relative to the mounting line etc
If uncertain do a dummy mount to confirm
Does anyone know if they make a cover for going brakeless on the new Evo heel pieces? The old version had a nice heel cover and it looks pretty whack without one on the new versions

On their website. They also have a toe shim available for the new speed toe pieces looks like

Oh this is great news! Haven't seen this til now.
Thanks for the tutorial. I am nowhere near your level of expertise and have only done 10-20 mounts. In my limited experience, mounting with a template was less work, more precise and less finicky than the times I had bindings I could not find a template for and made my own. Since I know the manufacturer has a template file, I thought asking them was a good way to get it. Since I didn't, I asked here, and I have since obtained the template from another member (yay!).
Thanks for the heads up! I was aware, and mounting on skis which already have a mount or two which are not the old Dynafit pattern I was rather going for the outer 4 screws.
But you can use dynafit template to get everything straight, then mark the outer screws using binding. And when you have toe piece straight, you can easily get back piece in place using your boot attached to front piece.
Of course would be bit easier with right template [emoji28]

Actually found my old one for 305mm sole from archives. Maybe you can use this one. But check and double check. Attachment 504938

Can somebody leak that new binding already?
Can you say when?
Holy crap these ATK guys have a need to expand the catalog?
