I really wanted to catch the slanting "God Rays" in the fog but by the time I could maneuver to a place with no obstructions the clouds had filled in enough that you couldn't see anything.
How long was the exposure on your campfire shot?
You are onto something there ^ ob. That shot above has a crooked horizon and the comp leaves something to be desired ( want to see more of the surrounding area). Maybe try a less-is-more comp with the orbs filling more frame. If you can change the color of the light you could create some masterpieces
CW- not sure of that shot, i wanna say 2-4 seconds tops. That shot would have been a throwaway, but i liked how the L side of the frame was filled with the trailing fireflys.
Yeah, pointedem. Every time I rotated the shot it still looked crooked. It has so many other flaws that I stoped wasting my time. I'll know tomorrow if the ones I shot on film are better, and there will certainly be future experiments...
The photographer who made the orbs in these shots, and who's responsible for a lot of the burning steel wool stuff is a fantastic light painter and deserves credit for his work and experimentation. You can check out his stuff here:

Tipp, you could benefit from some noise ninja and hi-pass sharpening. I just learned about the latter and it kicks butt.
Sick! I've known that guy's work for a while and was blown away first time I saw it. Cool idea and well executed fo sure.
Here's a better orb shot. I just got the film back. It's funny how I shoot the same thing with film and digital and the film shot comes out better more often than not.

The orb is just a light source on the end of a string or wire. You spin it in vertical loops and walk in a circle, making sure that the bottom of each loop is over the same spot on the ground. Some people mark that spot with something small and shiny like a quarter.
