Angry music is an odd beast when running. I find you need to use it carefully. Too much too soon, and you flame out. Not enough and you die. Use it wiselyl.

Been running to LCD Soundsystem lately. Aside from thier latest release, Sound of Silver, being CHOCK full of great songs to run to, ski to, etc., they're actually runners themselves, and created a running specific mix themselves. It's on iTunes and is called 45:something-something...can't rembmer the exact name...but you'll see it. It's really good....starts slow to get things rolling and then picks up from there with a cool down at the end. I don't like the 'song' from about 2 min. to 8 mins. (a little R&B-ish for my tastes), but the rest is $$$$$
Also...ditto...on the angry music thing for running. I have a lot of "angry" music, and love it for skiing, but for running....eh....one song shot of it is enough to get me up a tough hill maybe :)
All things considered and zero motivation, I have to be pleased w/a mere 9 seconds off my time of last week...
This week I focused on the mental game... and went out a little slower so I could not walk up any of the tough hills. I MADE IT! I needed to get over that hurdle and am psyched to be there with three weeks left in the series.
Tub's gonna feel awesome.
p.s. angry music isn't my favorite... and apparently I can make the hills w/out it... WHEW! :)
Took 30 sec off my 4.2 loop... no doubt it was on the downhill side but I'll still take it!
Real Training begins soon...
Mondays suck
Today is interval day
Intervals suck....so do mondays
8 X 400m w/400m Rest periods
did i mention intervals suck
know what else must suck, being the chick on the treadmill next to me as the sweat flies off my arms in her general direction during the sprints.
intervals are now done until next monday.
What doesn't suck, is that my 400m intervals are gettin completed at a 6:56 mile pace
Ran the GW Bridge Challenge fundraiser run for the American Cancer Society. I PR'd my 10K time - - 41:42 - - AND raised $1500.
Angry music helped me up one particularly steep hill. Godsmack, I believe.
Thanks, Dude!
Since running, I've become a heckuva lot more philanthropic! And realized that generosity flows trough the employees in my company. One co-worker with a funny and blunt comment - - - "I'd never do it myself, so I'm glad you all do these things so I can just click and donate..."

I found a cool website and was able to map my ski area run.

The site is mapmyrun.com
Oy. I got nixed, my wife got nixed and my father-in-law got nixed.
Looking at the pre-lottery listings, I am guessing that 2/3 of the spots are taken by charities, 9 race nyrrc'ers and 0 for 3'ers.
Tough to get by straight lottery.
I should go to AC tonight..
trail series tonight... got some good practice picking my knees up yesterday morning as I got lost in the woods on the XC skiing trails behind my house... if I can figure out a loop that'll be some good stuff right outside my back door!!
Missed the 1st week of the Tuesday night series but will make it next week...!
congrats dudes on getting into the NYC.
Ran 10K last night at my local trails. When I got back the car it's thermometer read 103 F. needless to say, i ran a little bit slower than usual.......
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!
Now I know this is unimpressive as times go... but I'm improving weekly and this is/was the goal!! Tonight I took 1:56 off my time of last week!!!!! I am still flying on that high... :):):) And yes, flying right into the shower cuz I went and had beer & dinner afterward, still sweating and gross...
Really feeling awesome right now.
Anyone ever suffered a vascular migraine while running...? Could use some beta as doctors are pretty vague at the moment...
Thanks.
VG
come down to boston, doctors are much less "vague"
bump for headache beta...? (let the vicodin games begin... :()
the wife says to drink a cup of coffee before you run, or take an excedrin migraine before you run. Getting some caffeine in your system before you go will prevent vasodialiation while running.
Anyone interested? 2007 Pemi Loop Challenge #1

Pemi Loop (map)
On Saturday, June 23rd a group of us will be running New Hampshire's Pemi-Loop as our final long run before the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run. The Pemi Loop is a total of 31.5 miles in length (50K) with a cumulative elevation of 9,150 feet. Included in the basic horseshoe loop are 8 of the 48 four thousand foot peaks of New Hampshire. 3 More can be added via Spur trail, each no more than 2 miles round trip. About 4 miles of this run takes place entirely above tree line and more than half of the run takes place at an elevation over 3,500'. Some of the best views in the nation! Sunrise 5:04 AM - Sunset 8:34 PM - Total Sun Hours 15:30 Moonrise 2:05 PM - Sunset 12:48 AM This run will begin at 7AM on Saturday, June 23rd and will continue until you complete the run through completion of the loop OR by way of with-drawl from the challenge.
Took basically a week off so my feet can heal from soccer. For some reason, running on a slightly bruised heel doesn't sound funny.
(ha. heal heel!)
I feel like a sloth.
Sad sad sad to not be running this week... no athletic anything til after further tests on Tuesday... can't have my head explode, I guess... but am certainly whining about it.
 :frown:  :frown:  :frown:
I did not do the Pemi Loop on Sat but I did do 20 miles. And on Sunday I went to do a short recovery run and could not make it past 2 miles. I think my IT band is screwed. I hope this is not going to keep me down for too long. Theres a race this weekend I want to run,

Had an awesome training weekend :)
Sat:
60 mi ride to Nyack and back
2 mi BRICK run
Sun:
9 mi run (taper, i have a 70.3 this weekend)
3000 m swim
yoga
Coolest part of my Sunday run: heading out from my apartment, there was a street vendor on 72nd/Lex that was selling some really cute dresses and tshirts and whatnot, and I had $20 on me. One pretty peach shirt (kinda flowy, princess neckline, with teal accents) caught my eye. So I told myself, run really hard and then on the way back you can buy the shirt!
I hauled ass to Harlem and back :) Even cut 5 minutes off my previous PR of that route. bought the shirt. even bargained him down from the $35 he wanted "hey, I'm running here, I only have this twenty on me!" shirt is super cute and i am psyched to have a great weekend of training in the bank
Now I have to TAPER ALL WEEK...agggh.... it is killing me all these pent up energies!!
I would too!!!
<wink>
Got my wakeboard on this weekend and a round of Jeckyll and Hide golf. Now my muscles are starting to say "that thing we did yesterday and Saturday... with the 180 hp boat and the water and the handle thingy... what was that and why didn't you warn me?"
Today I *officially* start training for NYC 1/2 and NYC full. Goin' to the track.
1 mile warm-up / recalibrate iPod running gizmo.
4 800 tempo / 800 goal pace
1 mile cool-down run
Tonight or tomorrow I'll figure out an actual "program" for me. Recently, I've been consistently (save for last week) running 15-20 miles a week in 7-10 mile increments.
Somebody work on that earth off-axis rotation thing. I want all year to be like this... daylight until past 8 PM.
you know what... your long run days for NY marathon should correspond with some of my long run days for IMLOU, we should meet up in NJ and run trails i am so fucking sick of my ONE long run "loop" in NYC. over to w side highway, up to 125th, down to Canal, and back. yawn. training for marathons in NYC isn't hard, it's just a testament to monotony. i'm dying for some woods and trails!!
running on sand sucks.
