Spieth qualified based on his play - he wasn't a captain's pick.
And has DJ even been playing well?
I honestly don't know cause I don't watch LIV golf.
I don’t watch LIV, but I checked the rankings. DJ has been playing well. I have less of a problem leaving him off because he never seemed to care about the RC in the past. Patrick Reed has also been playing well, and he loves the RC, but he’s such a douche. I can understand skipping him, too. But, DeChambeau should have made the team. And Keegan Bradley. The Euros were an absolute buzzsaw in the first session, but the look was bad for ZJ. Pick the bro brag team, give them a bunch of time off, get fucking hammered.
Zach Johnson - painful to watch.
The whole event has become cringe to me....add prez cup too. Everyone buddies all year then made up hate for the week. Stupid.
Agreed. He was infamously a short knocker too, which makes him a little more prone to peer pressure I think. He’s naturally in awe of how far these guys hit it. Of course if he had a fraction of that distance he would have been a ton more successful as could be said if a lot of amateurs with excellent short games.
Begs the question, who's the next US captain. Bethpage will be a rowdy time.
JD is a good choice.
He’d have the euros at the whore house all night.

Jon Rahm to LIV for estimated $450-600M.

I mean, if you're going to basically make a guy a billionaire that's hard to ignore.
Watch how fast the LIV-PGA merger falls apart I'm guessing.
he's already worth 20 million, now way he wouldn't double that staying with the pga until he's 50; but that wasn't enough. golfers are just they same as pro and now college athletes with the NIL and transfer portal; it's all about the money.
It is “professional” golf. It’s just not compelling watch anymore when they’re playing for most yachts to waterski behind.
LPGA always has great stories because so many players are barely hanging on. Skip to 8:00 on this vid of Alison Lee talking about Fred Couples.

I have to assume LIV is going to be like the billion dollar soccer clubs with 200 people paying attention.
Welcome, professional golf, to your new reality as professional tennis where people only pay attention to Majors and the rest of the tournaments are for die hards and corporate ticket holders.
Would seem the PGA Championship as a major should be in doubt. The Players is going to be affected too.
It feels like Elliott Ness just took a job as the muscle for Al Capone just for $$$$$.
What people are missing is that, the LIV format sucks. They can only buy so many players. It’s hard to buy real interest. The top guys who have bailed will be replaced by new talent. LIV has no structure for new talent except huge paychecks and those will eventually get smaller unless LIV overtakes the PGA. The whole thing sucks for the average golf fan. The greediness of those already at the top will ruin the game. See college football
Agree that the LIV format just plain sucks. But I'm not going to fault Rahm for taking that kind of money. And yes the whole thing sucks.
And yeah, college football has been ruined as well.
Hard to blame rahm or anyone else leaving for the $$$. Pga events becoming like monday qualifiers now...bunch of no namers. I hate all the division but apparently it was bound to happen.
I’m not sure Jay Monahan is going to be in charge much longer…

Have any of the equipment manufacturers established a marketing relationship at the sparsely watched LIV events? Does anyone know without Google who won the last event?
Yeah dude, you’re so dialed into the golf industry that I just had to explain that the PGA of America and PGA Tour are separate entities.
The majority of real golfers - where the money is - think LIV is shit. If they were smart they’d drop the format and just make it a straight up rival tour.
Without Google, who just won the:
Hero (probably easy because it got so much press with Tiger going)
RSM Classic
Betterfield Bermuda
WWT Championship
Zozo
How many people even know these were PGA tour events? I didn't until I looked.
Didn't know the last LIV winner but could tell you Gooch, Dechambeau, Koepka and Smith had a good run for the last few months. If LIV can keep throwing money and pulling big names like Rahmbo, they're going to get some traction. I'm a fairly casual fan that doesn't follow too much and I know those names as well or better than the dudes winning PGA events I've never heard of. Maybe I fit in the golf bro category.
I'm going to disagree, and say that it is easy to blame/fault Rahm, or Phil, or any of the other stars who flipped. Rahm is wealthy beyond what I can imagine, and would only increase his wealth playing on the PGA tour. But apparently that's not enough and I'm supposed to not fault him for taking more money than he could possibly spend from evil murderous fucks? We all have a price I guess.
The pga championship does not have this option:
Qualify for masters. Catch the Masters Committee’s attention
The Masters Committee also reserves the right to extend an invitation to players that they feel are deserving of a place in the field.
