Doood. It's wicked hawt owt the-ah.
Happy National Trails Day y'all.
Got out for a sweaty trail work day today. Rock work pictured not my own but pretty cool. Mostly worked on some benching going into a berm in some steep sidehill terrain. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6ea6f441b8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...00887181d8.jpg
biggins and I are bringing the wives to suffer through the Analog 4x4 on Saturday. Anyone else going to be there?
It looks like you can still register, but then no, no you can’t. Capping it at 75 seems small, the original plan was for 200, which is still pretty small. Oh well, maybe next year. At least You’re enjoying the ride!
4+ inches of rain yesterday in DownEast Maine have washed out several sections of the Carraige Roads in Acadia closing about half of the system. I rode about 15 miles of mostly undamaged sections with a park employee last night and he said budget shortfalls and lack of maintenance staff will cause delays in repairs. :frown:
Im going to go try and poke around a bit more today to get to the really badly hit areas he told me about.
Bummer
Evening ride with Mrs Single through some of the closures to check out the worst sections…
Damn, sc. I wonder how the campgrounds look.
I tried out flats for the first time ever (‘cepting on the townie bike). It wasn’t as foreign as I was expecting. Climbing went well and I had more confidence on the techie bits.

That water damage is brutal, so much work involved to fix it. Subbase, base and compacted stone dust topper equals a lot of labor and transfer of materials on narrow paths.
The dumbass jump/flow trail that was built in the backyard last summer had severe washouts this spring due to poor layout and construction methods.
What a cool event the Analog 4x4 was yesterday. The small group meant chatting with folks was easy. There were lots of unique bikes - fully refurb’d 1983 Ross 26’er MTB was a fave of mine. Drop bar fat bikes, 0mm offset stems, mustache bars, and at least one fully home made frame.
Final tally was 41.4 miles, 4,340’ elevation over lots of rough class 4 road.
Mrs biggins and Mrs P confirming the direction.

The rain on Friday night made the course greasy.

Hiking up a steam bed with biggins leading the way.

The second half started with a spin on the SVT Fairground trails.

I expected Mrs P to kill me for signing her up to ride this, but she kept a smile almost the entire time (she crashed on a wet rock with 4 miles to go).

Two major highlights - seeing a momma duck walk her dozen ducklings across the road, and seeing the one guy totally kitted out in spandex (it was more cut off jeans and Hawaiian shirt crowd) taking a nap on a large rock. It was just that kind of day and that kind of ride.
^^^ That looks like a nice way to spend the day. Well done.
Looks like an awesome ride. It’s getting hard to find gravel rides that don’t take themselves too seriously.

Ugly water damage but it did create a lot of natural berms
Analog Cycles is raaaaaaaaaaaaad. Count me a huge fan of those folks, and the whole scene out on the Western flank. Super fun day, though I cheesed out after lunch, so I must wear my hair shirt until I complete a proper suffer fest, Peruvian style. Still fun though :)
Peruvian did the sufferfest in a hair shirt?!??!??
I am intrigued and disturbed at the same time.
Pics or it didn’t happen!!

Road closures providing an opportunity to link together some more obscure loops isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Nice and cool this evening down in the hollow.
Ah, now it all makes sense. Sounds like the 4x4 was a great ride. Have to put it on the calendar for next year.

Wow Single, that’s some major damage.
Maybe I’ll hide out in Oregon a little longer.

Awesome TC, looks amazing there!
I really want to make it up this line! So far it's a no go.
It's a fun little down. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e45c4df28d.jpg
Found this gem while riding Hadlock yesterday. I didn’t dare get closer.

Eeeby MacKaskill could do it

Exactly. I tried to think of how he would tackle it and I think he'd just hop up. If there was a clean run in, speed would do it, but there isn't and what little speed I generate gets thrown by the rock ledgey stuff at the base. It's a puzzle beyond me! We built the "up" just to the left of the picture, so this was never meant to be an up for the normal Joe's.
Aqueduct trails
Had a great ride and love the slash ridge ,contagious stuf dark rich soil super build
Nice climbing up routes too
Lost some off map routes due to logging https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c0e91be6e8.jpg

Today was lift-served day four at Mt. Abram for me, and I managed 14 laps before the lift shut down for lunch at 12:45. I finally rode Yellowjacket, about which I'd been nervous--if it turned out to be completely over my head, it was going to be a long way to walk the bike down.
Turns out, it's not all that bad, at least on a modern, full squish bike. There are go-rounds on all of the significant drops, and otherwise it's mostly classic New England--plenty of rocks and roots, many of which are pointing in inconvenient directions.
I saw everything from guys in full DH mode (armor, DH bikes, etc) to a kid well under 10 on a fully rigid bike and another kid on a tagalong type thing (not sure what the actual policy, if any, is on those--one of the lifties was asking the others the first time the guy loaded, but I was on the chair before they answered). I also saw some of the full-DH-mode guys catch said tagalong on the newest flow trail, and as best I could tell from they lift, nobody seemed put out by that.
Overall, I continue to be impressed with the scene; the chair is still slow, while the new trail work is really sweet but there are still only seven lift served trails, but it's a pretty damn good way to spend at least half a day.

Hitting green woodlands Sunday for first time. Friends suggest Norris hill but what else? Going with my teen, skipping his race to just go ride. I said he could choose Highland or Green Woodlands. So glad he chose GW. I suspect Highland would have a pretty long wait at the lift Sunday.
Happy solstice and full moon [emoji276][emoji275]
Just booked a day at Highland bike park for late July. Kind of stoked to have a day on the bike during a week with the extended family on Lake Winnie
I've only been there once, but for fun stuff, I don't think there is much more than up to the Norris stuff and then loop into Xylem, Wagon Wheel, Ledges. There are some outlying trails I didn't have time for, but there was also quite a bit of dbl track. But for pedaling, it's a decent workout, just not that long unless you ride some mellow stuff. Check out Trailforks.
The new stuff on the western end is fun and beautiful. Sorry I can’t remember trail names- but it’s the trailhead way down N Dorchester rd. Norris Hill from top to bottom is ill fun- like 2 miles and a thousand feet of flowtastic descending. Before hitting that, ride further out to the hut up top (again- I suck at remembering trail names)- the descent from there back to the double track is also worth it for views and flowy fun. Don’t expect any technical riding, but you can get 30 miles of faaaaast fun (and mellow climbing) out of that place. Maps at most trail junctions too, so hard to get lost. Have a ball.

Any mags up in CV this weekend? The Mrs and I are headed up and we’re thinking of checking out Freeman Ridge Bike Park as well as sugarloaf.
