I read somewhere that the best place to look for rare Hot Wheels / Matchbox cars was the unexpected places.... grocery stores, auto parts stores, convenience stores .... They were right. 500 E at the local Grocery Store.

I dont have any recent crawling pics but I got one of my FPV(first person view) planes up in the air yesterday in some dead calm air.

a different more stressful kind of fun that honestly I think improves my decision making for skiing/mtbing.
^^^ that looks like fun.

New build starting.
Scattergun LCG chassisAttachment 381426
not to mention new links, and some fab work needed to get it to work. LCG builds are very pricey. I have guy local to me that does G10 for a lot less money than that. No LCG chassis is direct bolt on despite what their website say. With that said once you have a dialed in LCG chassis they are just so good and make otherwise undrivable places playgrounds.
With that said RC planes are actually far cheaper..... the one in my instant video I posted is like 140 bucks for everything in the sky, 100 buck for the goggles and another 120 for the transmitter. I dont own a single crawler that cost less than that. Learning curve well let just say I have never had to climb 40 feet up into a tree to retrieve a crawler or worried about hitting myself at 80 mph with a crawler. They each have a place for this nerd, one is an intense out of body experience and the other is chill way to watch my tiny truck go over crazy terrain. I feel way more like a kid with crawler and that is a positive.
it just crazy how much more expensive my toys are at 37 then when I was 11.
Birthday present, but definitely pricey.
I have extra axles, transmission, shocks and motor/esc from other trucks, so shouldn’t be too bad total cost.
My transmitter can have 20+ rigs on one remote, and the additional receiver is cheap.
We have 2 transmitters; one for my cars and one for my sons. Makes keeping track of them much easier.
How do you land the plane?
its a belly dragger, but quite frankly its so durable that any type of landing(IE crash) on soft ground is good enough. on a cut grass though you can basically come down hold some speed and then flair up at the last second and get a pretty smooth landing. The plane is Foam carbon and gridded duct tape and laminate, its really strong. This is not like those expensive balsa wood models. FPV planes in general are built to take a beating though, some of my race wings and my VAS wraiths have hit trees so fast and just kept on flying. If they break, you carbon spar, Welders and relaminate the break. You can do this many time before the plane is so heavy it just does nt fly. I got my Nano Goblin dialed from the start though and it literally has nt broken once.....and I wreck it all the time. Part of the fun of these thing is doing thing you would NEVER do in full size plane(I flew cessna with my dad as a Tween/teen) or even bigger more expensive models.
This is a POV video from the plane I was flying in the instagram video. One of the issue with the Nano Goblin is it is too light to carry a Gopro of any sort so this is recorded with a 15 dollar Banggood POV camera. My FPV(first person view) feed is full of static and is analog so it still better than DVR what is going to my goggles. The Nano Goblin is one of the few planes that is still legal to fly, I have many that are technically not legal to fly anymore because they exceed the 250 gram weight limit, including some 1000 gram + that go over 200mph. At that point you really do have to start thinking about what happens if shit does not go as planned because that could kill someone.

This is about as fast and as heavy as I can fly in back yard low. It weighs about 600 grams and goes about 100mph if you fast forward till the end you can see a landing.

The nice thing about a wraith, the plane in the last video is it is just big enough to carry a better action cam.

If you or anyone is interested PM me, FPV planes/wings are pretty rare hobby.
This is the cheapest way to get into it....you also need to build it.
https://www.racedayquads.com/product...pv-biplane-kit
but you need electronic which will add up to 300-400 dollars for your first build. The biplane can be flown by a beginner in a pretty small space, once you get good with it you could literally fly inside a gym.
the next best beginner plane is the one I showed in the video.
https://www.readymaderc.com/products...-fpv-plank-pnp kit with no FPV gear or Tx/Rx
https://www.racedayquads.com/collect...-fpv-plank-kit straight up kit you need to build it but can actually be built really cheaply if you know what you are looking for.
Sorry I am pretty geeked talking about this. Here is one last video of some guy who is really good and runs a ton better camera than me.

What should I buy for my upcoming 5yo birthday. He thinks RC looks cool but I don't know how much use it will get, so thinking ~$50.
Some options I found on amazon, but there is likely something better in the price range.

Real money gets saved for skis and bikes but 20" mtbs are vaporware right now so will have to buy one when I can find one.
Where ya located? Saw a sweet local sale for a 20" trek fat tire with disc brakes for $400

What are you/he looking for. A trail truck, a crawler, a rock basher, street truck....? Most of our trucks are crawler/trail trucks as we like to take them hiking. If that's what you think he'll be into, I'll echo the previous reply. Spend an extra $50, both of you will enjoy it more. I'm a big fan of Redcat products. I started my boy with an Everest 10 when he was 5, but the Ridgerock is a great truck too.

Holy wow. You do know that kid will grow like a weed and that 20" Trek @400 will seem cheap right? You fucking dentists....damn.
Sorry bad drift trying to hook up a mag. Apparently I'm "bike dumb". [emoji3]

I would not get either of those, both are not real RC cars. You can spend a little more and get something actually fixable(THEY ALL BREAK) and something that is actually nice.
This is one of the best known sub 100 dollar RC cars that is actually nice.
https://www.banggood.com/Wltoys-A959...4&rmmds=search.
Trust me the extra money spent now is worth it in the headaches down the line. THe WL toys is a clone of a much nicer LC racing buggy and some part are interchangeable. Just keep it stock and order an extra motor or two since brushed motors are wear items. I also some mini bashers Id would be willing to sell but you would need to buy a charger, they are worth more than the WL toys but are much NICER.
The wl looks like a good option. I think it will mostly get used in the yard and local park not every weekend hiking like some on this thread. I don’t want anything fast because he will just crash it.
I was thinking of starting cheap and going nice if he really gets into it because I would rather get him into MTB with me.
Might poke around used too if there are good places to look.
The WL toys is Medium fast. but is pretty strong and the parts that break(A arms) are pretty cheap and available in the US. I own the LC/Tacon trophy truck version and while its the real deal and not a clone, its my best smaller than 1/10 the scale I own.
I think for first rc cars, something they can play with when they want, and teach them basic driving skills without repeatedly crashing and breaking is key. Both of my kids started with one of these... Great bang for the buck. Just get rechargeable batteries as they will leave it on.

HA! That's the first one we bought too. It sucks through the batteries, so def get a couple sets of rechargeables. It was a great rig for us, the daughter still plays with it occasionally. It might seem a bit "juvenile" but it might give you an idea if they're ready for something different. It's definitely more of a rock crawler as it's slow as fuck. The kids had a great time crawling over Duplo's in the living room and the rocks surrounding the planters in the yard. Pick up a package of body clips too. The midgets always seem to lose that when they're taking the top on and off.
